Well Done Papyrus!

When I first loaded Nascar 3, in software rendering, I was thoroughly
disappointed. The same horrid smoke effects were there, as well as the
seemingly-random placement of tire tracks on the floor, to simulate
the best racing line.

It was only when I installed N3 on my second computer, which has a
powerful 3D graphics card, did I really notice the difference between
N2 and N3. And what a big improvement it is!

The new smoke effects are beautiful, if not a little short lived. The
smoke in Sports Car GT seemed to last in the air a little bit longer,
which really gave the impression of driving blind.

Currently, I can run N3 with a resolution of 800x600, with all the
details turned on, but with only around 10 cars on the track. With
that, I receive around 15fps, perhaps a little higher. (that's an
estimate, not a fact). Can't wait until I buy my long awaited new PC,
with a 21" monitor, and some serious processing power to boot, to see
what she looks like at peak performance, especially with all the cars
in view at one time.

With lots of new tracks, many of which I hadn't even heard of before,
better sounds, better graphics, and new cars, Nascar Racing has never
been so much fun.

Well done Papy!

Can't wait for a bundle of updates, tools, patches and utilities to
arrive, just as they did for the previous two Nascar sims.

Any idea of Papyrus are planning yet another sequel?

I believe Alt-f will give you a frame rate count.  Check your manual.
try turning off the grass and sky to see if that improves your
framerate.
  have fun

Thanks for the tip on ALT+F. I usually never forgot to read both the
manual and the Readme before starting a new game, but in this case I
was a tad too e***d.

Oddly, the grass and track textures, as well as the crowd stands seem
to have little effect on my frame rates. Instead, the horizon seems to
be the major frame-killer. Nothing too drastic however. Nothing to
complain about at least.

Hmmm . . .in GPL some of the sound settings (especially the sound quality in
an *.ini file) have a major effect on framerates.  When I dropped from "2"
to "0" in that setting I picked up about 5 fps.  Perhaps there's something
similar lurking around in the N3 folders?
