F1RS controls question

by Jim Harm » Tue, 24 Feb 1998 04:00:00

I finally downloaded the F1RS english demo and was glad to see it had
support for joysticks (the french one doesn't). I tried a few laps using
my gravis joystick and could not keep the car from spinning. I concluded
that it was most likely due to the fact that I was using a button as the
accelerator. So I dusted off my Formula T2 wheel which I never could get
use to and gave it a try and I have to admit it's really nice and the
pedal accelerator makes the car much more drivable. However, I don't
particularly like the pedal brake and decided to set it to pulling down
on the gear shift. It didn't work. After playing around for a while I
discovered that the y-axis for acceleration only works if you also have
y-axis for braking. It looks fine in the control setup window and in the
F1 help screen but the acceration pedal does nothing. I went back under
windows and setup my T2 as just a 2-axis joystick and then went back
into F1RS and seting the accelerator to an axis and the brakes to
button and it worked fine. Of course, the steering was then shot to hell.
So, at least is the english demo, if your using a wheel you cannot
have the accelerator on a axis and the brakes on a button. Could someone
with a T2 tell me if this is true in the full release?

Hi.

I have a homebuilt wheel and pedals but essentially I think they are the
same as the T2.  I normally do my win95 calibration in the Thrustmaster
ProPanel.   In the full F1RS game I *can* have the throttle on a pedal
and the brake on a button.  You'd better turn the ABS on  :-)
