I just got done over at the ABC Sports web site informing them of my
opinion (distinctly negative) about their aborting coverage of the CART
race at Road America to keep their posted broadcast schedule intact.
This with less than 25 minutes to go in the race !!  If you also feel
strongly about this, please go to abcsports.com and fill out their "Ask
ABC Sports" page entry fields.  This isn't the first time these guys
did this to us, and no doubt won't be the last.

ABC and It's daughter companies ESPN and ESPN 2 will have the IRL series in
addition to CART next year, so we'll get a double dose of open wheel racing
taking the back seat to golf, tennis, and other sports...

I agree with Terry, it only takes a second to write them a *** response on
their website, and if they get enough of a response perhaps they'll at least
give us a picture in picture shot of the ending of a race, if not the race
in it's entirety!

Here in Canada, TSN continued with the ABC feed, albeit without commentary
except when they cut back live on ABC.
1/2 marks to TSN

TSN did the same thing to us here in Canada... good thing we also have
the french version of that channel (RDS): they gave us the full
broadcast! That's really nice.

Hey, this is from the people who gave us the delightful "ABC Sports
Indy Racing -- the Road to Indy" sim a few years back.  Now you want
good television coverage of motorsports, too?  <G>

;-)

Seriously, though, this was outrageous.  They'd NEVER do that with a
NASCAR race, which really ticks me off

LOL!  What a concept -- equal opportunity preempted racing.  I wonder
if they'll make any effort to differentiate between which series it is
they're cutting away from??

I found Paul Page's comment interesting.

Words to the effect of, "You cannot run over 20 minutes into
the next broadcast so we have to go now."

Rather two-faced of ABC since they ran over 20-25 minutes into
the Cleveland race coverage and missed the start of the race.
With GOLF no less!  ABC acts like CART is a second class "we'll-
cover-it-if-we-have-the-spare-time" series, and that kind of
attitude will keep CART television viewership in the toilet
forever.

Stupid programming twits.

Does the monster mouse have any holdings in IRL?  The Disney IRL race
will probably not be chopped off no matter what is scheduled to follow.

All things considered, especially the money aspects, Tony George will
probably fare better than whoever is running CART by then.  However,
the big money will still be golf.  Got to remember ratings value, and
in the US open-wheel racing is not being effectively marketed
(apparently).

Just a little more fuel for the fire, the rebroadcast on ESPN was
Monday at 3AM, not 3PM like cart.com and rec.autos.sport.info said.
Guess they need to keep the afternoon slots open for more X "sports".
