Performance of GPL on a PIII 500 ???

by Marcus Blet » Tue, 13 Feb 2001 19:24:06

Hi,

in the last time ive noticed a little slowdown on my system. Perhaps i only
think so, but to find out whats normal i need your help.
Here is my system

Asus P2B with PIII 500Mhz
128MB RAM PC-100Mhz
Nvidia TNTII Drivers 6.31 (better drivers for GPL?)
Guillemot Ferrari USB FFB Wheel
Soundblaster Live Player 1024

Everything with the newest drivers available.
Im playing GPL ver. 1.2 with the D3d-patch
The settings in the core.ini should be o.k.
With the full field    in 800x600 i can only race with a minimum of details
to get 36fps. Is this normal ?

So who the same system ?
What are your results ? (Resolution - fps)
Is there a site in the net to compare such results ?
I can remember there was a site for such things for GP2

Thanks for your help !

Maybe the video card.

My system is a PIII550, 128mb, SBLive, V3 2000 & LWFF wheel.

I play at 8x6 and get 36fps almost all the time. The only slowdowns
are at the start and some of the 3rd party tracks.

I have never played using D3D but the rest of the system is very
similar to yours.

Cheers.

Performance of GPL on a PIII 500 ???

My system:  Celeron 500, 128mb ram-66mhz, TNT1 card, Turtle Beach Quadzilla
sound card.  I race at 800x600 and get 33-34 fps with spikes of 36, with
driver arms off, wheel off, mirrors on low.  The big hit for me is not with
the graphic settings, but with my winmodem.  I use the D3d patch, Dx8a, and
the latest nvidia drivers...Changing the details slider does not change the
FPS...I seem pretty locked at 33-34 regardless of the graphic settings which
tells me it is more likely related to my winmodem.  I get much better ping
with my winmodem when I adjust the send/receive slider down two notches...

Kirk

So yes, your system sounds normal....

Scrounge yourself an old US Robotics Sportster 28,800 external modem
for on-line racing.  Use the Winmodem for regular internet stuff.
That's what I've done and it makes an enormous difference with my
Celeron 400, 64 Mb, Voodoo2 system.  I just have two different modems
defined and two different entries in Dial Up Networking; "Regular" and
"VROC Only".  I keep the Sportster locked at a 19,200 baud max speed.

Highly recommended.

Are you using FF ? If so should down FF run the wheel w/o it. You will not
believe how much CPU cycles are used with FF.Its a vast improvement.
