Game Controllers

Im looking for info on game controllers.  Right now i've got a 468-100
w/ 32MB a proaudio 16 sound card w/ game port and an old AT (80286)
8-bit game card (far as i know this card DOES support 4 axes). My
experience has been when i run the port on the sound card my performance
between joystick and sound is highly hindered, so I installed the 8-bit
card.  It seems to work well.  My concern is Im planning on getting a
wheel and pedal setup and would like to know what opinions are on new
new game controllers like the CH and Trustmaster or whatever else is out
there.  Do I need to get one for improved performance?  Will I actually
see the improvement?  Also, does adding a fancy wheel and pedal setup
create more work on the CPU and decrease my framerate even further?

Thanks in advance.

I have a 16-bit ProAudio board and never found the sound hindered by
using the game port on the board.  However, I did find an improvement in
"control" when I installed ThrustMaster's ACM card.  My control is more
precise, and I don't experience calibration drifts.  Using a wheel and
pedal combo should not decrease your peformance and it will definitely
increase your enjoyment and immersion in the sim.

BTW:  I put off getting a dedicated game card for quite some time.
After I installed the ACM, I wondered why in the hell did I wait so
long?!
