NASCAR 1 vs. NASCAR 2?

by m.. » Wed, 14 May 1997 04:00:00

I'd like to know from those of you who have purchased <both> Nascar
Racing and Nascar Racing 2, if you think N2 is really worth the
purchase.  Is it <that> much of an improvement over the original game
as to be worth the extra money?  I have the opportunity to pick up the
track pack for N1 for $19, and I have downloaded carset97, so I'm
up-to-date carwise.  I hate the thought of just shelving N1!

Please bear in mind that I have a P100 (& Herc Dyn128vid), so I don't

Thanks for your opinions!

To answer your question, yes, Nascar2 is a lot better then N1.  I never
play nascar1 since I got nascar 2.  They cars are more accurate, it's
easier to use, and it has better graphics.  Get rid of nascar1 and get
nascar2.

Nascar2 you get all the tracks from Nascar1 and Track Pack.
The tracks in Nascar2 are far more realistic and accurate.
The spotter is cool. Rear wheel spin is brilliant for turning
the car around quickly. The garage setup is all on one page
and has diagrams showing the effects you have on the weight
changes. More sounds effects.
I have the Nascar1 and Track Pack but have never run the games
since Nascar2. Will keep Nascar1 for old time sake.
Nascar2 Svga will run better the Nascar1 Svga.
I use a P120 32 meg ram and S3 video card. A slight choppyness
in heavy traffic with most details on. Will properly buy a
Rendition card soon so I can run the Enhanced version of
Nascar2 that is supplied on the CD.

I would say it is worth it.  If you enjoy N1, you should enjoy N2 that
much more.  If for nothing but the handling.  Papyrus never released a
fix for the traction bug in N1 for single-player mode.  For that reason
alone N2 is worth it.  The tracks have been greatly improved (Talladega
and Darlington, The Glen, and Sears Point come to mind).  In my book all
the rest of the improvements are just icing on the cake.
