Congrats to A. Bjxrnstad!
It was a boring race in the middle of the pack, there seemed to be a LOT of
engine problems.  16 cars started, 3 finished.
Results available here: http://www.racesimcentral.net/~epickett/monza_gp.html
I'll post a full report later.

Splendid racing though from my point of view. Started from back of
pack, avoiding the initial few incidents in the first 1/2 dozen laps and went
on to get as high as 2nd before my engine melted a piston 6 miserable laps
from the end (sniff). Still not a bad run for a Honda. Noticed there was
this Pickett guy that was starting to overhaul me quite rapidly towards the
end. Oddly enough he claims to be slow! While I certainly wouldn't call the
gentleman a sandbagger I think (with apologies to the Bard) that the racer
doth protest too much. :) Nice run Eldred, I think you would have caught me
anyway even without my engine trouble. Congrats to A. Bjxrnstad  and RMS too
for making it all the way.

When Eldred the slow began his quest for speed, he could legitimately
'claim'
to be amoung the turtles of the GPL world.  but now, even as he rose as a
champion
of the slow and downtrodden, he has moved beyond us mere sub-humans.  He has
evolved into an almost alien level...not there yet...but certainly no longer
to be counted
amongst the slow of foot.

Yeah Dave,

You really were going well (though Eldred was catching you... way to go
Eldred!!). In the early laps it was comforting to know it was you in the
mirrors (better the devil you know <g>). Was a pleasure watching you apply
your smooth style as you made your way up through the field after you passed
(and I crashed out).
Too bad I made that silly mistake out of Ascari and your enigne blew,
otherwise it would have been two MARiAns in the top 5. ;-)

Thanks, and thanks for hosting.

I must admit that I didn't realize that it was a full length GP until
about 3 minutes before the start. So I just filled up the qualify-like
setup with fuel. I wasn't sure how much fuel I would need, and the
famed reliability of the Lotus wasn't to assuring either. I short-shifted
most of the race.

After Warringas crash, it was lonely in the lead, and I was lucky to
finish.  Twice I scraped paint of the armoco in lesmo, and twice I
entered the sand outside Parabolica, once almost getting stuck in the
hedge.

And my chair which doesn't seem too bad in pro short races was giving
me some pain...

My first full length GPL race, and I'm already ***ed. When's the
next race? :-)

I got knocked out in turn one by some moron who went on to blow his engine
after one lap!  If you can't keep your car together for more than one lap why
are you joining a full length race?  Just to ruin my day, I guess.

When I saw those incidents I declared my support for D. Erb. You kept it
together well at the end. Andr W. and I scraped our wheels against  the
armcos too, but we were not quite so lucky.

LOL

Ah, but the first one is free. Then you have to pay Eldred $10 per race. ;-)

Cheers,
Jens

Catching and *passing* are entirely two different things...<g>  It was scary
coming up on your smoking car in Ascari...(!)  It was fun chasing you, though -
once I got my concentration back.  Driving around without seeing another car
for most of the race doesn't help keep you sharp.

That sucks, Don.  It would have been fun to race against(most likely way
behind) you...
I don't think anybody read the server comments.  I noticed that M. Leipold
bailed after my warning that it was a long race - be careful.  Even Asbj?rn
Bj?rnstad didn't realize it was a GP race until right before the start.  Maybe
next time I'll change the server name to reflect a GP race.

Open question to those who participated(in this and other GP races): Should the
next race be passworded?  Let me know your thoughts on this.  Feel free to
e-mail me personally if you'd rather not make public comments...<g>

Great, now I've moved up the ladder to 'average'...<g>

You're both nutters! That track is sheer boredom.
But just for the record, when is it?

And something completely different:
In 5 EGPs there have been 5 different winners, 20 people in the points,
and only 2 winners have scored points in other races...

Based on modern F1 points and disregarding the 80% rule, the top drivers
are:
1) Jan Vershueren - 26 (Slow but sure)
2) Eldred Pickett - 16 (Win is surely in the cards)
3) Andr Warringa - 12 (Mr. Speed)
4) Carlo Kleijngeld - 10 (One hit wonder)
4) Asbj?rn Bj?rnstad - 10 (One hit wonder)
4) Jens Kruuse - 10 (One hit wonder)
7) Roger Squires - 7 (Three top 6 finishes!)
8) Don McCorkle - 6 (R. Schumacher clone)
8) Jari Paavola - 6
