After watching the old movie Grand prix. I marvelled at how accurate the GPL
tracks are, you really could recognise were you were on the film.
My question is at Monza when they used the combined oval and normal track ,
were do you turn on and off the normal track as the film seemed to show most
corners being used of the old track plus the banking, Anyone know?

Here is a diagram of the combined track:

It was last used for a championship F1 race in 1961 and only used in the
film for dramatic effect.

While watching this track map I got a superb idea:
Wouldn't it be great if someone made..
Oh, never mind, stupid idea.

So did they really do one lap of the normal Monza, one lap of the oval,
one lap of the normal Monza, one lap of the oval, and so on, alternating
between the two in the F1 race of '61? That would be weird. What if you
accidently did two normal Monza's in a row, could you do two ovals to make
up for your blunder? :)

Yep. Not difficult really as when you come out of parabolica you just
stay on the right side of the main straight to then go on the banking
and when you come off the banking you're already on the left of the main
straight to go up to curva grande. The cars didn't interweave on the
main stright.

Fascinating! I can see how they won't interweave. Would be an exciting
addition to GPL.

And there were bollards all down the middle of the main straight as well
making it a bit of a crazy maneuver to cross over.
