Daytona USA Racing sim ???

who makes the racing sim that is at the Daytona USA exhibit at Daytona
Speedway? it looks a
lot like the Taladega Track on Nascar 1 and the garage looks similiar?
does Papyrus make this? If so , why dont they make a Daytona track for
Nascar Racing?   The game plays just like NR but I cannot turn as good lap
times, plus it costs $10 to get in and you have to wait in that damn line
for a measly 3 laps, my best qualifying was 198.44mph.  T'roy-

The track was made by Papyrus and its not available for Nascar Racing
yet because of licesing right. Sega owns the right to Daytona. Why I do
not no because thier Daytona Usa is a total piece of ***and shouldn't
bare the great name of Daytona. The setup at Daytona USA was made
possible because Papyrus wasn't going to sell it. Hopefully
Sierra/Papyrus will pick up the licesning right when Sega loses them.

Papyrus won't be getting the rights to the Daytona track anytime
soon, since Sega wrapped-up a 3-year deal about a month ago to
hang on to the name...

Looks like 3-more years of ***from Sega.  :(

Why don't Papyrus just release the specs for their track datafiles and
let people come up with track editors.

This has proved to be IMMENSELY succesful for products like Doom.

Hi Tero,

While this would off-hand sound nice, Papyrus would be breaking copyright
laws in releasing such data...And while having a track editor would be a
cool
thing, it would probably force Papyrus to completely redesign the internal
structure of their sims so that could sell the next title.  If you had a
track
editor for N1, how much incentive would there be for you to purchase N2
(assuming that N2 wouldn't have one).  And when a TE came out for N2, you
might even wait a bit befor buying N3, etc, etc.

Another factor to consider is that Papyrus can support their own product,
but
if a 3rd party program smokes your system, who you gonna call?...Ghost
Busters?  ;)  (sorry...couldn't help it<g>)

However, Papyrus doesn't mind people messin'-around creating utilities,
provided that the programs don't use their code and don't infringe on
other's
copyrights.  I guess we'll have to wait for "Gerhard the Wizard" to work
some
of his magic on N2!!  :)

That's sad news!  You know, I just don't understand some of these people
bemoaning no Daytona or Indy for NASCAR1 or 2.  Yes, it would be nice.
Yes, it would make it a more complete sim.  But, keep in mind that the
folks at Papyrus are just as upset and disappointed as we are.  They
aren't sitting around gloating over the fact that we don't have these
tracks.  They have been working to get the rights to include them.  I am
sure that all of the Papyrus folks take great pride in their race sims
and feel more cheated than we do that they are not allowed to put out a
complete set of tracks.

Let's give it a rest.  If you have to pester anybody, let Sega and Tony
George know how you feel.  Give us all a break and quite ***ing and
moaning.

No they wouldn't. Their track file format specs are their own, no copyright
broken.

Well, this could be. Didn't hurt Doom II sales, did it.

Of course, if Papyrus prefers to sell us new track expansion packs every
one or two years...(i.e. Nascar III :)

ID has no problem with this, why should Papyrus.

u could have done a better job than that u and i both know it.
and i can bet that if u dont get a patch out that can make the game
raceready. than Don or Joe will come up with there own race sim. and i
bet they can do a better job cus they know what we want . u must have a
hard time with that? . we want a race SIM. if u cant do this tell us
insteed of giving us a sim that is a peace of ***to get money for
urself.?but its to late u already did that now didnt u.
