>>Just curious if anyone here bought a PS2 just to play this game?
No. But I did rent one for three days :-)
And I did buy a PSX for GT (and later purchased GT2).
While it is a great game and a passable sim, I don't think it warrants $330 for
PS2+GT3, then another $50-90 to get a wheel for it (plus memory card...).
There are a few plusses compared to GT2:
Obviously, the huge leap in the graphics
Addition of a Boxster, 996-gen 911 (Ruf's), Speedster, and apparently Monaco
(see the demo of a GT-One at the "cote d'azur).
The replay analyzer
A return to qualifying
But overall, the subtractions are almost as significant:
Far fewer cars. Admittedly mostly the "mundane" ones. But that was a major
part of the charm for me. I don't need 3+ race versions of each of the NSX,
Supra, GT-R...
Only about 3 used cars.
Only about 5 cars you can afford to start the "simulation"
Sure, it's a tour-de-force console racer. But I'll wait for a major price drop
at least.
