Can anyone help me with a strange problem I have with frame rate in GPL. I
am using a voodoo 5 and get a good frame rate while racing however when i go
into training mode i get dramatic slowdown from time to time despite being
only car on track. For some reason i seem to get better frame rate when
there are more cars about. It is not down to drivers because i have tried
various one. The same thing happens in D3D and glide

Are you by any chance running Windows Me, or do you have some background
task running? I doubt it's anything to do with racing vs. training - I think
that's just a cooincidence; something is kicking in in the background and
tying up a bunch of CPU cycles.

is this maybe sound related?

there is an option in:

sounds & multimedia->Audio->Playback->Extended->system performance

called something like "conversion quality of sample rate"
setting to low renders GPL undriveable, setting to high
is fine.

i also converted all gpl-wavs to 16bit, 44khz.

(My System is W2kSP2, German. I translated into english,
 maybe there is some difference in the english options)

I am using windows 98 and i do not have anything running in background
Am about to try what Joachim suggested

What are your system specs? CPU speed?

Any particular track? In the same spot maybe? Could be that your
getting graphical slowdowns just at certain points. This always used
to happen to me at the chicane at Monaco. Really sucked cos it's such
a tricky corner, without slow downs adding to my woes.
