Rally Championship Demo

by Laurens de Jon » Mon, 15 Nov 1999 04:00:00

I downloaded the RC demo and tried to drive it, but I can't figure out how
to use steering.  It seems that all I can do is on/off steering, which makes
it very difficult for me to drive a straight line at 20 mph.  I changed
left/right steering, to see if I understood the user interface, and that did
work, but I never got it to do the analog steering that every other racing
sim does.

I have a K6-III 400, Voodoo3 3000, 128 MB, PDPI-L4, TSW2 platform. All
hardware performs fine on a variety of other games.

Any pointers?  Thanks.

That is all the demo offers unfortunately, never mind you can buy the real
thing this Friday in the UK.

Oops!  I don't know HOW that one reappeared on the newsgroup, sorry about
the bandwidth guys.

(For those who hadn't noticed: I posted this earlier in the week.  Must have
been a draft I lost or something, or just my being incredibly dense.)

Regardless of the repost, you can download DXTweak from www.wingmanteam.com and
use it to reduce the sensitivity of your controller in the steering axis.  The
RC demo takes on a whole new light then, although the physics model still has a
ways to go.  With my Wingman Formula, the default min/max values for the
steering are around 0 and 655, with the center at 327.  By extending the
min/max by 1200 in each direction to -873 and 1527, the steering feels quite
normal.  Different values would of course apply for different controllers, so
experiment.  Just remember to reset the values for other games.

Cheers,

Steve Blankenship

I won't be parting with 1p for this simulation until I'm convinced that the
physics have improved drastically from the earlier demos. Any word of an
updated demo?

Darren
