Well, there y' go, you see. Somewhat different to what you started with.
Now you're talking about whether the *appearance* is acceptable to the FIA?!

To be honest, I wasn't aware that there was an "aesthetic yardstick" in the
FIA's rulebook, Francois.
Safety, yes; access, yes; public and team facilities, yes.

Beauty? Wow! I can see a new competition emerging at their annual award
ceremony - The Most Beautiful Circuit Of The Year, with sub categories such
as Most Congenial Circuit and Most Photogenic.

Bruce.

like Sears Point to qualify in the aesthetics aspects of the track.

Yes, yes very much.  The FIA doesn't want a cheap-looking track.  Ex : at
Montral, a couple of years ago, the track was severely criticed by them for
the cheap-quality of the grass (if you remember, some drivers who had
off-course excursions had complete patch of grass stuck on their cars).  It
was fixed for the next year.  They won't accept such things.

There's a reason why tracks like Australia put the big bucks for the
Aesthetic qualities of their tracks.  The Sears Point owners just don't
consider it important, and I feel it cheapens the track a little in todays'
standards.  Gee can you continue more just trying to find a point over my
posts now and being a smart-ass???????

It would be intersting to see them install a sprinkler system and actually
have green grass planted around the edges of the track instead of the
dirt/yellow grass that is there now.  My hat is off to the raceway however
because they have invested and done so much to improve it but their is
definately more they could do like paving the concession areas, more
landscaping, a taller standings pole, make highway 37 a 4 lane road.  ;)

But are you SURE that was because the grass was"cheap-looking" or because
the turf was not really the ideal insofar as safety was concerned? I don't
think either the FIA or Bernie would give a damn about whether the grass was
bought at Bill's Bargain Ba***t or came from the finest stock.

In other words - it wasn't what it LOOKED like but how it performed under
those conditions - with cars skating across the surface.

Oh, I'm sure I can, Francois. Just give me a minute or two....... :)

Both.  Trust me there ;)

They require the highest appearance possible but of course they don't expect
the track owners to put in gold leaves instead of grass!!  Seriously it's an
important issue.  Most of the tracks, even if you check out the CART series,
they don't look as good-looking or modern as the F1 tracks.  Sure some
people (and they are right by saying so) will say that the F1 tracks are
bland and have no soul anymore in their perfecticity, but look at them.  The
grass is uniform, bright, the tyre on the walls are fresh painted and
lined-up equally, etc...  They don't do that for nothing.

Seriously, it's an issue of little worth but, if that's uppermost on the
list of "must haves" with Bernie and/or the FIA, it's just one more reason
to add to my list of Why I Can't Stand Modern F1.

Incidentally, Fran?ois, in your continual and much-admired efforts to
achieve English perfection, allow me to assist:

"Perfecticity", uh-uh. :(
"Perfection", yes. :)

I sometimes invent my own language.  Even in French, I on purpose will add
suffixes and prefixes to form derivative words.  I have my own reasons to do
such thing.

Like "perfecticity".  OE's spelling tool warned me, but I ignored it.

Oh.
Okay then, Fran?ois.
Good luck with the word inventing.

I'm glad they got rid of that stupid building that was blocking the
view of turn 11. I was there in 2002 for the vintage races, in the
midst of their renovation. Almost all the passing takes place at 11/12
but it was blocked by a building! You just watched the cars go in,
hold your breath, and see who comes out the next turn. Looks great
now. The "infield" seating areas seemed like a waste of space, just
like the dragstrip (running for cover).
