ACT LABS Force RS USB Q's

I just picked up my first FF wheel and I'm getting the hang of it in
GPL.  You guys were right.  They did a great job on the FF in that
sim.  I can't say I'm real crazy about the pedals of the RS though.
They are a little sticky and rub where they pass through the case.  I
tried to put a little lube on it and it didn't help much.  Anybody
have any other suggestions?  The way it is right now there is no way
to be precise with pedal movement and in this sim that's not a good
thing.

Also, for you guys that have had a Force for a while, have you done
any tweaking on the force settings that worked out well?
Thanks!

I read somewhere on here that after a week or so of use that problem goes
away.  I am trying to decide which wheel to purchase this weekend and I'm
leaning towards the ACT Labs device.  I've read that a lot of the people are
not happy with the pedals on the Logitech wheel, complaining of them being
to sensitive.  And on the other side of the coin I've read that the paddles
on the ACT wheel are pretty much useless.  But ACT is coming out with a new
shifter soon so that's not a big concern.  Keep us posted (pun intended) of
how it turns out.

If you have an older wheel with pedals you like more, you can have
both wheels turned on in Windows (notice all those extra slots for
other game controllers?)  Put the FF wheel in the first slot and the
old gameport wheel/pedals in the other.  GPL will notice all the
different axes connected to the game (there is a "next page" button on
the calibration dialog).  You can then use your older pedals along
with the FF wheel.  That is what I'm doing.  As far as whether the RS
pedals smooth out after a week, I don't think so.  I've been using the
RS pedals for TOCA 2 almost constantly (since it doesn' see all those
axes) and they still bind up, but then I haven't taken any measures
yet to fix the problem (vaseline, oil or whatever)

I find the Logitech pedals to be very precise in GPL. You can
feather the gas or brake. No problem.

The only thing that ever helped very much for me was
to open up the wheels, and loosen the nuts and bolts
that hold the sliding assembly together.  Even with
that, they are still not perfect.  I find them to be
fine in any sim other than GPL because of the
sensitivity it requires.

Pat,

So you tried lubricating the pedal assembly and that didn't stop them
from binding up?

Hi gary..yeah those pedals are toss!

I took the wiring harness off the pedals and soldered the damn thing to my
thrusty pedals...now i've got good split axis pedals!
If i could do it you can too!...jv

The Logitech pedals are bad. I've an Hyperstimulator, and the Logitech
FF wheel. You just can't compare the pedals. For example, people, when
driving in an Hyper for the first time, always believe the brakepedal
is stuck. And that's correct, the travel is 15mm at most. You've to
press real hard to make it move.

With the Logitech however, you can't feel how much you pressed the
pedal. You've to brake on clues provided by the ga..err sim, not on
the feedback provided by the pedals. Ok, I know in the end you know
how much you should press the pedal to archieve the right result, but
that will, unlike the Hyper, vary from game to game....

Thanks for the suggestions guys!  Yes, I was thinking about taking my
Thrustmaster pedals and hooking them up to it.  First I'm going to pop
the RS ones apart and see if I can smooth them out a little.  Other
than this problem the wheel rocks.
