SCGT Help Needed

by Cobr » Sat, 28 Jul 2001 08:24:44

After installing SCGT and before installing any patches, I am getting a
"Cube Error" that states " Could not allocate D3D source texture surface".
Anyone have any idea what this is? System specs are: Dual PIII 1000 Mhz
CPU's, 1 gig SDRAM, Geforce 2 DDR (32 MB) AGP, ATI All-In-Wonder PCI
(multiple monitors). I disable the multiple monitor options prior to
launching the game. I also select Direct 3D as my video option.

This error occurs during the time when the track is loading and immediately
tosses me back to the desktop

Thank you in advance for your help.

Haven't seen that one before, but you should at least install the latest
official patch (1.551) and see if that fixes it.

OTOH I think maybe you just have way too powerful of a machine for such
an old game.  I strongly recomend you remove one of the CPU's, half of
the RAM, and the GF2, and send them to me for safe keeping.  I think the
game will run fine then.  ;o)

HAHAHAHAHA   ROTFLMAO...

I tried the official patch with the same results. I know this game is old,
in fact I have had it since it first came out. At that time GPL was still in
its hay day and being a good GPL "SNOB" as I was, SCGT got tossed in a
drawer never to be heard from again. Now I need a WSC  "FIX" as it has gone
into that phase of maybe never getting  done, so I thought I would change
the scenery a bit with SCGT. The cars look great, and it does represent my
favorite type of auto racing.

Dont feel bad. SCGT is a great game and I still play it regularly to
this day. Working on the World Championship in a maxed out Porsche GT1
right now -- and NO CHEATING!

SCGT Help Needed

Well I only recently got into racing, and therefore only recently got
into both SCGT and GPL.  But even though I am probably playing more GPL
lately, I do still go back and play SCGT regularly also.  GPL may be
more fun to drive, but I just like the idea of having all of those
different classes of sports cars all on the track at the same time.
What a blast!

Anyway, I have some ideas for you to try.  First, quite a few of us have
found that SCGT works fine at 800x600 but does not work on certain
tracks at 1024x768.  The error message we get is different than the one
you are getting, but it might still be worth a try at that resolution.
Since the error message you are getting seems to relate to a D3D
allocation problem, also try setting your desktop to 16 bit color before
running SCGT, and you might even want to look in your display properties
and see if you can restrict D3D to using a 16 bit z buffer.  Hopefully
one of those ideas will help.

Good luck,
Hal

Thank you very much...that seems to have done it. That is, I turned down the
resolution to 800x600 and reduced the color depth to 16 bit. Do you
recommend installing SP3...any other updates?

Thank you again

Glad you got it to work.  I have heard of SP3 but have not been able to
find it.  I don't know what is in it, but I think it is just new assets
rather than new code, so I wouldn't think there would be any issues.

You're welcome!
Hal
