CPR Patch

CPR Patch

by Jeff Chauz » Thu, 08 Jan 1998 04:00:00

I have played a few games with the patch.  I have a 233mmx, 64sdram, and
Monster and was getting around 25-30 fps.  Somewhat better than I got
before.  The AI, is more competitive and I found that it was even fun to
race side by side with "him".  I was no longer afraid to pass the AI.

Perhaps the most significant change was the difference between the
Professional Level and the Intermediate Level.  Things just felt more
"real" in the Pro level.  The grass is much more realistic, as are the
sand pits.  I didn't seem to slide around off track as much in the
intermediate level as I did in the Pro level.

Overall, I think the patch is a large step forward, and more time with
it will lend to more complete review.

CPR Patch

What a nice surprise it was to see the patch waiting for me when I woke up this
morning! I downloaded it but had to get off to work before I could run anything
more than a few exploratory laps at Long Beach, although I could already tell it
was an improvement. It certainly was a long day, I couldn't wait to get home! I
must say that the patch loaded perfectly, the instructions were easy to read
and implement for a relative newbie like myself! So far I've run about 20 laps
at Long Beach, 30+ at Cleveland and two Quick Races at Fontana. As someone
posted earlier, the AI is improved, they no longer run around Fontana in big
clumps, and pretty much stay in the racing line, making it easier to pass, which
is all you'll do in rookie mode, the AI cars are that slow! Intermediate is a
lot better. I don't see much improvement in frame rate, only up to 12-15 from
9-12, even with everything shut off. I must get a new Video Card however
(MilleniumII w/ m3d) so your results will vary! I did get my car to do the
coolest thing though! I spun coming out of 3 at Fontana and was hit head on by
another car. My car went up into the air, nose first, and then stayed there for
two laps, slowly spinning like a top! The funniest thing I've ever seen! It
then set itself down and I finished the race!
All in all, I feel it's an improvement, but it still feels like an arcade game
to me. At least I don't want to give it away now and am willing to give it some
more time and effort. For those who didn't get the patch, hang in there! It
WILL be worth the wait. One question though, WHERE ARE THE YELLOWS!

I agree, however i still find the competitive drivers/cars are too
slow into the corners at the fast oval corners.

This makes it too easy to pass and i find a Michigan for example u can
start back row of grid and give them a start, but still catch and pass
all drivers within 2-3 laps.

My other comment would be going of the track onto the grass a high
speed, i would be impressed if any Indy driver could pull up a car
that quick on grass.

The patch has helped, but needs futher tweaking.

Still like the game/sims concept, and it runs perfect on Pen 200 MMx
with 3DFx 64 Meg ram.

I tested it last night on my friend's P225MMX, 3dFX, 64Mb RAM and I
can assure you it was a long way short of "perfect" - that was with a
2 day old "***" install of Win95 as well.

Cheers!
