Folks,

Is there any concensus?  probably not >-|, I have seen both comments
in favour and against GP4. I installed it last night and played it
more or less no-stop.

My first reaction was the sound is _so_ different, much more like f1
2001 or 2002. Maybe it more like the real sound (from watching it on
TV) but I liked the sound in GP3 sounded more 'aggressive'.

The graphics are much better (ATI 7200 1024x768 Athlon 1200) and I
have not seen any of the annoying slow downs with GP3 (2000 or
not). What surprised me is how different many of the tracks are, I
wonder if they were way off in GP3....

Some bugs, most noticeable is in the pits the mirror views are wrong,
they still show 'track' objects. I personally don't think that the
animated pit crew add _that_ to the game, but it might take more races
to be more sure.

Monaco is a real improvement, the blue sky (of all things) is just
great.

Someone mentioned it was easier, I would agree, i don't know if easier
is the right word, I prefer 'forgiving' again maybe it is a time
matter, but when driving on the limit in GP3 it was very easy to spin
off, seems much harder now.

I think people who like it are in the vast minority

Most think it's complete un***erated bollocks.

Yep.  Really no reason to buy it. F1 2001 or 2002 offers much more.

Initial reaction is surprisingly favourable here. I found the graphics
very poor in GP3. The new graphics engine puts it on a par with its
rivals in terms of looks (though it is subjective which style you
prefer) though it lacks the fps of the others.

Driving around on your own is not too impressive, the physics model
lacks the feel of Papy sims and to F1-200X, although it does give the
impression of downforce and grip.

It is the racing where GP4s qualities come to the fore. Excellent AI and
truly immersive racing. Delaying braking just that fraction later as you
are being challenged can really upset your entry and they are through -
great stuff.

Too early to say if it is a novelty. Yet to try a decent length race.
Hopefully it will prove a good basis for the sim community to work with,
and those graphic ini files to be tweaked to death!

Cheers

Tony
