Been following this with a sort of morbid facination :)
Most of what Tom writes is bollox, the rambings of someone who
disappeared up his own arsehole some time ago.
There were hints of reality in there too though:
"My brain will always be confused to a certain extent"
So true Tom, so very true.
Oh, and when blowing your own trumpet about "I know what I've done in
the last three years to help raise the level of awareness about sim
racing, its drivers and participants to people I know in real-world
racing!" maybe you should also consider how many people you've
alienated or turned off racing because they think its made up of
people like you.
If you did indeed help people with setups and driving styles in the
early days of sim-racing, cool. You shouldn't need to shout about it
if its true - people should be lining up to sing your praises.
We've heard a lot of self-praise from you but not a whole lot of
others willing to echo it. Ever wondered why? Ever thought it might
just be you?
Or maybe you could use the old "silent majority" line again. You're
fooling no-one.
I suppose I can class myself as an insect, since I broke 1.30 at Monza
a couple of times
If you really are as slow as you say you are after owning the game for
3 years no wonder you're bitter! I broke 1.33 after about a week in
the Cooper and I'm not one of the "fast guys" that you hate with such
a passion.
I can only do about 1.30.xx in the Cooper there now - but I know this:
I'm far less of a danger to myself and other racers (of all abilities)
than I was when I was doing 33's.
If you can't see that you need to achieve a higher level of all round
control to find the 3 seconds and that improved car control = less
chance of incidents then frankly you're a lost cause.
Complain about bad driving on Vroc by all means, but I'll tell you now
when a German magazine gave free copies of GPL on the cover disk, the
number of racers and standard of driving decreased markedly - you work
it out.
I wasn't bothered though, it was new *** which Vroc and GPL needs to
survive - most improve quite quickly and become useful racers.
I was happy to suffer their dodgy lines into corners, early braking
and lockups, wild lurid slides, occasional railriding (hopefully
unintentional) unpredictable behaviour - because a few months before,
that was me.
I've caused enough accidents in online races in my time, anyone who
says they haven't is a liar. I strive to improve my skills so these
incidents are less regular - its all you can do.
There is also such a thing as a "racing accident"
6 of one and half a dozen of the other if you like. Warp plays a part
too.
Spend less time hyping yourself and more time contributing to this
great community you claim to be a part of.
This little world will be a happier place for it, believe me.
