So far I love in N3 in every way but am very disappointed that they left
out
modem to modem connections. Me and a friend race everynight and he does
not
have internet(amazing i know but some people still don't) how hard could
it have been
to include this option. Now we will be stuck having to go back to N99 to
race.

I believe someone from papyrus addressed this already in another thread.  I
believe they stated that you could set up your dial up networking connection
to link two computers instead of calling your ISP.  Perhaps they have a FAQ
on their web site or some help in the manual.  (I unfortunately cannot vouch
for this since my EB sold out of N3 before I could get there after work :( )

I used DUN for playing Q2 alot.   A friend had two computers in his
house on a network and I would call him up through MS's DUN and it ran
great, I think my pings were around 90, which in the Quake2 world is
spectacular on a 56k modem.

Check around on the Quake Gameing sites, I'm sure one of them has
detailed instructions.

I too was dissapointed that there was no modem play.  A friend and I have
run several seasons dating back to N1.  I was hoping they would clean up
some of the bugs that modem play produced.  Now, after playing via the
internet, I am dissapointed in that as well.  I dont have access to a high
speed connection, and from what I've seen, without one, internet play is
going to be awful. So far, everything else in N3 is a major improvement over
NR1999, especially my new favorite track, Indy.
