Does anyone use 5th gear as their "racing" gear on the ovals like they do
in real life?  If so, how do u gear the car?

On the bigger ovals I do setup 5th as a "passing" gear.  It is usually 1
or 2 lower than 6th.  I use 6th as a "overdrive" gear, mainly to
conserve fuel and not tax the engine.

I usually gear 5th 2/10ths ratio above sixth. I use 5th as my chasing gear
and 6th as my cruising and gas saving gear. I like to place 4th gear about
5/10ths ratio above 5th gear. Then I make each of the top three a little
longer. I like 4th to be longer so thet if I get behind traffic, like at
Indy I can go down to 4th and then accelerate off of the corner to pass
people. At Nazareth I use this technique to go into the third corner,
because it is so tight that you need that shorter gear to accelerate off
of that corner. I have found that the setups that came with the package
are useless.
