I think Spa and Silverstone are also suitable venues.  We need really
wide tracks.  :-)

Wasn't it a just a couple of years ago that Mark Martin did a bunch of demo
laps around Silverstone in the #6 Ford? There ya go, a genuine historical
precedent! :)

John, sorry to disappoint you but "au contraire", fortunately ;-)    I don't
know if you are aware of this, but you can now convert any track to any
Papyrus title except SODA : Off-Road almost.  GPL tracks for N1, N2, Icr2,
NR99.  N1 tracks for N2, Icr2, GPL NR99.  Icr2 tracks for GPL, N2, NR99,
etc..  If it can be done for GPL, it can be more easily done for N3 and NL,
which have a more standard file architecture (3DO and TRK) than GPL. Those
tracks might not be public yet, but you never know when they will be :)

Well you see the point.  Papyrus has the same TRk and 3DO architecture in
their .dat  so it's very easy now with the knowledge that track editor have
to convert tracks into any Papyrus sim.  And in the future, I bet you there
will be a track editor which will be very easy and user friendly.  Im 100%
sure of that.

I know some people racing GPL Monza with Icr2, Icr1 Brickyard with GPL, Icr2
Australia with NR99, etc..  Everything is possible :)

It's not a screw-up Jon, it is really in it.  It seems that the Indianapolis
Motor Speedway Executives have been much more open to track licensing this
past year, according license to GTI, EA Sports and now Papyrus, with also
SEGA who will have the rights for a DreamCast/arcade title until ugh I think
2002.  Now if only Daytona International Speedway would do the same...

Where can I get GPL tracks for ICR2?????????

I like both styles of starts.. Standing F1 starts and Pace lap NASCAR
starts.  Since NASCAR3 is going to be something like GPL with the
windows stuff, I wonder if it would work to setup pace laps for the
smaller tracks in GPL by doing some conversions?  And the other way
around?

There are many things I like about NASCAR.  The biggest thing being the
points structure.  Wonder if the points structure could be converted to
GPL?

I'm sure that after really studying the differences, we could come up
with league races with the best of the two Sims. (If it's possible to
convert more then just the tracks)

And maybe we'll have to pay $30 for a shareware converter!
YEAH!

And maybe they'll sue everyone for illegal copyright infringment!
YEAH!

And maybe a whole lawsuit will insue and Papy will have to shut down for
using it's license irresponsibly (ie. making it too easy to convert
tracks, modify tracks, etc.)
YEAH!

And maybe R.A.S will be left to pickup the ashes..YEAH!

I'll drink to that...C'mon, get real, put the beer and pretzels down for
a second and think. Daytona? Hasn't happened why? Very good. I'm not
saying this won't but just don't get your hopes and everyone elses in
the group high so we can come crashing down harder than Ricky Craven at

Read my message again.  Ididn't say it couldn't or wouldn't be done, I
just said it would take a while.  Despite the somewhat rosey picture you
paint,  I'd be willing to bet that the tracks in N3 or not just
different, but different enough to make it a royal pain in the ass to
convert to or from.  Sure, there's a lot of existing knowledge floating
around about existing formats, but it's ludicrous to think/assume that it
will be a walk in the park.

I want it to happen, but I'm not expecting any converted tracks to be
available until sometime next year.  I'd love for someone to prove me
wrong, and they can start with converting the N2 Pocono and North
Wilkesboro tracks to N3. :-)

Last I remember was that Pocono was not for sale.  The owner (forget his
name) said he had no need for more money, he loved the place and that he
was gonna keep it.

I like your "challenge" approach.

There is simply NO WAY anyone will be able to get Riverside to work in
N3 before Christmas. Oh, and there will NEVER be a working Daytona (day
and night pls) <G>
