Hey, I'm kinda new to sims and 'puters, but I've been reading in this group
about Rendition and 3D, and I'm wondering if my machine and video card will
allow me to run either of these(dell Pll 233,64mb,STB velocity 128  w/ 4 mb
AGP). I play n2 in windows and it seems to run just fine, but it seems that
rendition improves the quality of play....if you get it to work.if I click
on N2 rendition icon in my Sierra directory, the screen goes black, then
spits me out to the desktop.I love the game, and if I can improve it I'd
like to, although you may have to describe the steps to take in very basic
terms(4 yr. old level?)for me to follow-but I'll do what it takes , if
anybody's interested.         thanks, Ed                     Ed

Sorry, you can't run the Rendition version without a rendition card. This is a
pity because the rendition enhanced games look very nice and play very well,
much better than the unaccelerated versions... If Nascar2 and Indycar2 is very
important for you, I suggest buying a rendition card (Stealth II is very cheap
now, I think you can get one for around 100 USD...)... If you do, you will be
able to run GPL fine too :-)

There is also the 3Dfx boards that can be used.  I have the Diamond Monster
II with the Voodoo2 Chipset.  Much nicer than running the normal version of
the game.  I had a rendition card, and I find the there is more support for
3Dfx chipset.

 Ed,
I think if you took a poll you may well find that many of us in this group
run _both_ a Rendition powered 2d/3d board and a 3dfx add-on vid board. This
really gives you the best of both worlds. I can run Nascar2 in either 3dfx
mode, native Rendition acceleration, or of course regular SVGA. All of the Papy
sims are Rendition native, and really do look much better when running on a
Rendition card. Grand Prix Legends is the same way, allowing you to run your
card of choice. The Rendition version of GPL is very much better looking, the
3dfx mode does not support anti-aliasing (the jaggies.)
You have a real good start with your P/233 and 64 megs of RAM. What you may
want to do is to first get a 3dfx add-on card. It will do its thing right
alongside the STB. With the new Voodoo2 cards on the market, the original
Voodoo cards are that much more affordable now. Then later on down the road
upgrade again and get the 8meg Hercules Thriller 3d AGP card to replace the
STB. I use my Thriller and run the GPL demo at 800x600, all details on, and it
looks FABULOUS!
Hope I answered some of your questions, all the best, Mike
