In this week's Autosport there is an interesting article about driver
conduct in Nascar, the article refers to a notorious dust-up between Cale
Yarborough and a pair of Allisons at the 1979 Daytona 500. Is this online?

   That was a famous little fight at the end of the '79 Daytona 500.  The
real reason it was big news is that was the first year CBS actually aired
the race live.  So it was like Jerry Springer 10 years before fighting on
tv became popular.

Yup, that brawl ushered in the era of televised NASCAR races. All the
invloved parties laugh about it now, but it was a big deal on that
particular day, no doubt. Probably the only other sought after piece of
video since is the 'Pass in the grass'. Both timeless NASCAR memories. I
would say BE's domination in the mid-1980's on the speedways in particular,
but he was SO *** that it wasn't really special. The guy could make up
two laps (without the current lucky dog rule) at nearly any track, and his
sloped back Thunderbird with its enormous HP forced GM to produce a limited
number of GP and MC/SS fastbacks for the street just so they could try race
the new bodystyle and try to catch up. Can you imagine turning 210 avg laps
at Daytona today? Or 212 avg laps at Tally? Me either. The bullets they
drive now would likely be in the 220's...

   That is the thing...Nascar allowed Chevy to build a special one-off
Monte Carlo to keep up with the Tbird, but a few years later when the Ford
was behind the Lumina, the Chevy crowd screamed ***y *** when Ford was
given a bit of extra nose....

I hated all the ***ing about the various marques.  I thought it was supposed
to be, work on your car to beat the other brands?  If you can't do that, then
maybe you should SWITCH to the other brand???

I have it Eldred if ya want to post it.  I saved it highly compressed for my
PPC so the quality isnt all that great but you can still see em brawling :)

Nope, someone complaining because I shut off his connection because his system
had a virus.  He wanted to get back on the network, but he hadn't followed the
instructions that were clearly laid out.  Considering how many students I have
contact with who are like that, I fear for our future... :-(
