Thrusty Formula T1 pedals as rudders?

by Clive Parso » Tue, 07 Nov 1995 04:00:00

Hi all,

Anyone know if it's possible to connect your favorite joypole to your
Formula T1 pedals so you can use them as rudders? I use an F-16 FLCS.

Simply unplugging your wheel and pluging in the Joystick doesn't seem to
work for me, any ideas? Please post a complete method on what you did.
BTW, I have already opened up the pedal unit and put the pedals in a
better position - Thrustmaster don't waste any money on extraneous
wires, I had to solder in new ones long enough for the job! :-)

I'm sure that it must be possible as Thrusty seem to have done all they
can to discourage you connecting up: No screws to open the pedal unit
(you have to drill it out), wires not long enough.

It seems silly to buy an RCS when the T1 could be put to good effect.

TIA,

>TIA,

I have used my T1 pedals as rudders successfully in MW2, Apache, and
USNF. I plug the pedals in to the gameport (a Gravis adjustable), then
the WCS II into the pedals and finally the joystick into the WCS (the
hat must be set to digital ). I was not able to get the pedals to
calibrate properly in 1942 PAW.

The one problem you will run into is that the pedals work in reverse
when playing flight sims, just turn them around and prop them up with
the yellow pages. Works good and I figure I've given TM enough cash
already without buying $100 pedals!

Clive,
If you're ambitious enough to open the unit up one more time,
then it should be able to be done.  The problem you've been running into
was probably the fact that the Formula T1 pedals work in the opposite way
as the RCS.  Sooo, you basically need to just go inside the unit and rewire
the Pots.  To change the direction of the pots, simply swap the wire on the
left or right hand Pot Terminal, and move it to the other side(if it was on the
right switch it to the left or vice versa).  Actually, you're best bet would be to
wire in a switch that would allow you to switch from Flight Sim mode, back to
Racing Sim mode, and back again.
Your second alternative would be to just calibrate them backwards,
which should work, and use them that way!  Let me know if you need anything
else!

     Hi!
May be this will come in handy...
It's quite easy to  make  pedals  yourself  if  you  have  two
joysticks. Just  break joystick2 Y electric circuit and insert
variable resistor which is controled by some "pedals".  So  you
have yoke(joystick1), pedals and throttle control (joystick2).
It works OK in FS 5.
