situation, though saw many problems with running GPL.
Appy Polly Loggies if this is redundant.
Gave my brother Grand Prix Legends but to our dismay the program
crashed back to the desktop partway through a lap at Spa.
Emailed Sierra and got solution. They said it was a problem with the
sound used in his Dell PIII 700 128mb. He tried it and got a couple of
laps at Spa, but now the problem has creeped back. Any other ideas?
Below is Sierra's response...
Summary: Grand Prix Legends Crashes
SUGGESTED SOLUTION:
At 01/29/2001 04:31 PM we wrote - This is due to an issue with the
older Aureal reference drivers on which Dell's Turtle Beach Montego
2 drivers are based. It does not only affect Grand Prix Legends, but
also quite a few other games that use Direct Sound. If they follow
the pattern of Aureal's reference drivers it should be fixed with
their next driver update. In the meantime, you should be able to
solve the problem in the following fashion:
1. Click Start, Settings, Control Panel.
2. Double-click the TBS Montego 2 Audio icon, then click the
Settings tab.
3. Check the box marked "Disable Direct Sound Hardware
Acceleration."
4. Click Close then start Grand Prix Legends.
You should be able to run the program as intended. If you find
yourself having audio problems with other software as a result of
this, simply uncheck the "Disable Direct Sound Hardware
Acceleration." box, then check it the next time you want to run
Grand Prix Legends.
