GPL framerate/lap time....related??

You can definitely go faster with better framerate.  I'm not saying
the game incorrectly deviates from realtime, but your control is
so much better with a good framerate that you frankly don't have
a chance racing at 15 fps.

I was wondering...if im getting a dismal FPS (about 15) will my lap time be
inherently slower even though my speeds match with some of the hotlaps ive
seen.  Example: I turned a 1:32.52 in the Ferrari at Monza but compared it to
another Ferrari lap there (Greame's 1:28 something) and i was only about 2 MPH
slower at the ends of the straights and was just about the same through Ascari
and Lesmos 1&2.  Is it possible that the slower time has to do with my abysmal
FPS and some sort of odd warping?

Thanks,
Chris

Maybe you did do driving an other league? (GP1, GP2 & GP3)

No im positive that it was the GP car cause i was pulling 10,000 RPM on the
straights

Save some replays of your laps and see if they are smooth. It seems, that
the replays always get saved at 36 fps, and it's easier to playback a
replay at 36 fps, since the computer doesn't have to monitor your inputs
at that point anymore.

The fps you see while you are playing is just the displayed fps, the
physics engine and 'other stuff' still try to run at the optimal speed
and the display gets updated only when there's time for that.

So, unless your PC is below the minimum required (don't know what that is),
you are probably just a bit slow. As someone already mentioned, it is
easier to make faster laptimes if your computer can also update
the display at 36 fps, since you can control the car more smoothly,
because of the smoother visual feedback. And smoothness is the key
to driving these cars fast.

GPL framerate/lap time....related??

I have seen the opposite.  I tend to run around 25-34 fps (can get it to 36
fps, but have turn everything off).  I can run faster laps on my computer,
then I can on my friends system. (He gets 36 fps all the time).  Here is why
I think I get better times on my system.  Slow fps = slower response time =
later braking into the turns.  My Wheel/pedals comb is exactly that:  wheels
and pedals  His setup is a wheel with finger paddles  I think I react faster
with hand movements then I do with foot movements.  Faster hand movements =
earlier braking.  Got to remember, all of my braking points, are for my
system.  So, when I race on his machine, I tend to use my braking points.
This = slower lap times on a system that can run 36fps all the time. Not
much slower(about half a sec.), but slower non the less.

Framerate and reported lap times are related in F1RS but not in GPL.
Whatever the frame rate, GPL always displays the correct lap time. You
can check this yourself using a stopwatch. The only relationship between
fps and lap times is that's almost impossible to drive at the limit with
low fps.

Slow FPS; yes, warping; no.  A couple of mph all the way down Monza's long
straights adds up to a good bit of time.  To really tell the difference in your
laps versus the quicker guys, use the forward/back/slo-mo controls on the fast
lap replays and step through them to see where their braking points are and
what their minimum apex speeds are.  Compare those to yours and you'll find
what you're looking for.  You can also take split times(only to 1 sec. accuracy
though) to see where you're losing ground.  Higher FPS will definitely help
your control in the corners, and thus your lap times.  Of course Graeme's
running a P200, I think, so Heaven help us if he upgrades. :-)

I have hand paddles and food pedals (2 steering wheels) and i am 2 seconds
slower with the hand paddles cause i am not used to them, i think if you
used your normal pedal and wheel setup on his computer then you would be
faster.
