Logitech FF centering: A good compromise?

The 3.20 beta drivers allow you to toggle centering tension in FF
games. I've read the info that setting this too high will mask the
feedback effects, but I hate the limp-noodle feeling of the wheel
with it off.

I messed around with the centering strength, and found 50% is the
least centering strength I find tolerable.
At 40%, I feel like *I'm* centering the wheel.
That makes it feel less realistic than a conventional non-FF wheel.

How are other Wingman owners dealing with this?
My SCGT lap times suffer greatly when I have to manually center. With
no weight/feel to the wheel, it's easy to over-compensate.  =8^/

Hmmm. The MS FF wheel definately needed the centering
ON. But I don't nitice that it is nessessary at all with the Logitech
FF wheel. I still get a strong centering feeling. Yes when I enable
centering in FF games, it is stronger, but I prefer it OFF. If you still
insist on using centering for FF you may want to start with the
center spring tension way down to say 25%.

Opps I see you already messed with that. Well if I were to use centering
with FF games I would do the above.

I use no FF centering.

I have gotten 46sec laps at limerock in the demo. What are your
lap times at limerock? Also what are your other wheel settings?
I have the overall effects set to 130%, Spring 100% and dampening
set to 130%. I really find it surprising you are not feeling a centering
feel with the wheel. I do and when I let my racing buddy check it out
the other day, he thought it was awesome. If there was a lack of
centering I he would have complained. He commented how accurate
and awesome the wheel felt.

I have centering at 75%
Overall effects - 80%
Spring  effect  -  80%
Damper effect - 100%

And with these settings do you feel the wheel loosen up as the
front's tires lose grip? That is probably the number one thing that
FF would be great for in racing games/sims.

50% centering, 100% everything else.
Maybe turning the dampening up over 100% will help.

I'm not sure what my best time was in the demo. I just did a few laps
at Lime Rock. I did 49.xx with the GT3 911, and 43-something with the
GTR Coupe.

Don't know which car you were using, but it sounds like your lap times
are probably faster than mine, in general.

I'm not sure yet either. But it was the kick-ass Visteon car from
the demo.

Yes.

Viper Racing is the only FF I use.  I set these parameters in and for
Viper to react exactly like that.  I don't want FF to knock my arms off,
I only want to "feel" the car.  Viper is pretty good for FF.  Of course
there are games that would require more, but in this case you probably
want to be jerked around for the fun of it.

I'm sure GPL FF will be done well.  With the proper FF wheel setup it
should add to the sense of  "being there".
