Papyrus guys:

A quick hint -- Bristol is being paved to asphalt next month.  I think
that's enough warning to make the NASCAR 2 track asphalt as well,
don't you? <G>

Wishful thinking.  Since NASCAR2 is based on the 1996 season and it
is/was still concrete.  Good try though ;-)  I think that the Bristol
track is "cast in concrete" for NASCAR2.

If not, what's to stop someone from coming up with an asphalt patch
for Bristol, the opposite of what the concrete patch for Dover is
supposed to do?

It's frustrating that the game will already be obsolete in features
such as this before it's even released.

On a related note, the ESPN announcers also mentioned that Bristol's
owner was talking to a firm about putting a DOME over Bristol?  What a
great idea!  I didn't think it was possible myself.

And have everyone die of carbon monoxide?

I'll tell you what will stop me and other Track Editors,  file format.  We now know
the file format in NASCAR Racing 1 (3DO,  MIP,  etc.) won't be the same.
So I,  Gerhard,  Jed,  Jan,  Rob,  Alex,  Tom,  and the rest of the gang will have trouble
cracking the file formats.

I would prob. think that the sides would be open for the fumes to exit the dome.  It
prob. be like a big canopy just covering the track and the fans...so I would say from
the top of the grandstand down would be left open... but i could be wrong..

Actually...I kinda like the concrete better.
Visually,(in the game(sim)),it's easier on the eyes, and provides better
visibilty ahead and what seems like greater clarity.
Is for me anyway :-)

This is a bad idea for now.  I don't see how it makes a difference
either
way really.  Until Winston cup cars run on the refinished track how will
Papyrus know what traction data to apply to the track to make the cars
handle realistically on it?  They don't just guess at this stuff do
they?
I personally like the concrete tracks because it makes it a little
easier
to see what's going on.  I can't understand why they are making it
asphalt
anyway.  I assume because it's cheaper than concrete, but wasn't he
talking about putting a dome over it?  That can't be cheap.  Asphalt
would
probably make the track even faster!  That't just what they need at
Bristol. <g>

At least the race will never be delayed due to weather!

I would think if they went ahead with it they'd put enough thought
into the design to prevent such a thing from happening.

Yeabut... the concrete patch for Dover doesn't do anything about the handling
of the cars.

It certainly would be nice if Papyrus could put in a switch for each track
(just a line in the .txt file) that would indicate asphalt or concrete... that
way it would be easily changeable.

Great?  That track is LOUD already.  And smokey.  A dome?  Now I've heard
everything.

Later...
Steve

I saw that on TV, too, but I think he was talking about putting a roof
over all the seats, not a dome over the whole track.  This is only MY
interpretation of it.

A dome?   I guess that would keep the weather from playing havoc on the surface and
allow year-round racing.... but I can't imagine it would be cost-effective.

Oh well.   Sounds cool anyway.
