yeah what awesome pleasure you've just give to racing sim community with D3D
patch !!!!
so please, keep on, and give us a ACT-LAB RS SHIFTER patch... you did it for
NASCAR 3.
and it seems not to be too complicated...  MGI have said it take them half
an hour to make the patch for VIPER RACING.

personnally, I'm even ready to PAY for this !!

I second that request.  It would make GPL harder but more realistic.

Cheers

I thought the Hewland gearboxes that alot of the 67 car used were
sequential.

If that's the case, a H pattern would not be realistic :-)

And the***pit in GPL wouldn't be realistic either.

Sequential gearboxes in cars did not start till realistically Ferrari did
it on a F1 car in the 80s.  The GPL H pattern is correct.  They did not
have gates defined like in GPL, but you cannot have everything.

Fortunately for the realism of GPL you are wrong. They are standard H
patterns.

I third the request!  Although it would definitely be harder.  Running Sears
Point in N3 last night with my new 4 speed shifter plate - and Nascar 50th Hurst
Shifter knob - I would have to look when I shifted or take the risk of slamming
into 1st gear when going about 90Mph ;)  I'm sure I would get used to it though.
Wish I had the opportunity to do just that...

I'm also eagerly waiting for this patch, but I think it may not be so
easy for GPL. I believe GPL blips the throttle when you're downshifting
(when in neutral) to rev up the engine. With the current sequential
shifting GPL knows when you're downshifting, but with the RS Shifter it
wouldn't know until you kick in the next gear; when you have just get
out of a gear and set it no neutral, (when the blip should be done),
GPL doesn't know what your intentions are. I'm afraid that a patch for
the shifter mantaining the current automatic clutch of GPL is not
trivial at all. What do you think?

I think they should do the patch anyway! besides, I didn't think that GPL
blips the throttle for you, I figured that the engine revs will always do
that little 'jump', because the engine is unloaded when in neutral.

I don't know and I don't care.  GPL more than any other sim deserves all the
control realism it can get.  If Kaemmer & Co. really do care about their
baby, which despite sales is the best sim ever made, then one would think
they would want to add that big missing piece...that shifter.  I can't
express how frustrating it is to be staring over at the useless up/down
shifter in the old mode when I so badly want to remove the template and
start driving it like a real car!

From Act Labs, it takes an average of half an hour to an hour to add support
to a game.

I use a homebuilt H-shifter for GPL and it works great with or without
clutch. And it would work even better with a proper H-shifter patch. GPL is
one of the few games that passes neutral between the gears, and that makes
it ideal for a real H pattern. And I don't think it's harder to add RS
shifter support for GPL than any other racing game.

The rev blip you hear happens because the wheels/gearbox forces the engine
to "blip" if the road speed is too high when you downshift.

Just read an article in an old "Motorsport" mag where one of the hacks
drives a Lotus 49. Apparently, the Hewland 5 speed gearbox has a "dog leg
first", although in the pictures of the***pit do not show a clearly
defined H pattern.

Therefore, for true realism...........................
