Well I like it.

I have to admit that 30 seems overpriced for what you get in addition to
the F2001 game. But the game is emminently more playable in that you can
actually play whole races now even if you lose your tailsection etc. Also I
like the extra damage effects. And at least you can tell now whether its
raining before you go out onto the track. The extra years courses and cars
dont mean much to me mind.

However the fact that they havent changed the lame rain effects is
unexcusable. This has always been the worst point of an otherwise superior
game for me. I just love the bumps and handling far more than GP3. Also I
love the pitstops. GP3 handled these terribly. But the rain effects need an
urgent upgrade. You cant tell its been raining. You cant really tell when
its raining or how heavy. Theres no relections in the wet tracks. Theres
almost no diferentiation between wet and dry areas of the tracks. Drying
lines are similarly almost indistinguishable. Its a bad thing that this
aspect hasnt been touched at all. Its the one reason I almost decided to
take the game back, and Im still considering it. If it isnt upgraded in a
patch or in an extension to the game I can say I wont be buying future
incarnations of the game. Which would be a great shame.

Whilst Im on wind effects would be nice as well. Has anyone figured out
wether slip streaming features in the game at all? I certainly hope it does
as its an important part of racing.

I'll give the game a little more time yet but Im not ruling out taking the
game back to the shop - 30 is a lot for an upgrade.

While from a sim perspective, the rain modelling isn't as good as GP4
(it's not dynamic on a track location basis, there's no visibly drying
groove, etc), have you run in the rain using 32-bit color yet?  Spray
from other cars has never been done nearly as well as it has in F1C.

I beg to differ -- I definitely saw the drying line visibly last evening!
Didn't use it enough to get the feel for how it differed from the rest of
the surface though -- I was too busy adjusting controllers, skidding
around, going backwards and whatnot. And, you have to look quite a bit
harder than in GP3 (and I guss, GP4) to see it! (Can't someone PLEASE do
something about those lame wet tarmac textures?? :)

You're right - there is a drying line....  Just need the reflective track
like GP4 and it would be fine....

Oof, yes, you guys are right, just noticed this in a multi race last
night.  Well done.
