Hi i have the older of the MSFF wheel with the gameport connection not the
USB one, i have downloaded  the latest drivers to make the wheel work
correctly in WinXP but have seen they are for the USB wheel , does anyone
know if they will work ok for my wheel ? I do not want to install them and
muck anything up in my system !!

Cheers Andy.

I think in your case you can just use the "Microsoft Sidewinder
(autodetect)" controller, with XP's drivers.
IIRC there was no driver support for the older MSFF devices, apart from
the included selection.
Works fine with my MSFF joystick.

Nope.  The 4.0 software is for USB only.

I had to change to a MSFF USB wheel after WinXP. The gameport version will
not work and I believe Microsoft offered not drivers or work-a-rounds for
it.
Sorry.

The Sidewinder 4.0 software is for the USB wheel only, alas. The basic
functionalities of my Sidewinder Force Feedback _stick_ are provided by
the default XP drivers ("sidewinder autodetect"). If not already done,
you could try these for your wheel.

If that doesn't work, this begs the question: what is an adequate
replacement wheel for MSFF wheels (gameport and ageing USB) users ? Is
there a consensus around the Logitech DFP ? And is that an improvement
over the MS wheels & pedals ?

With my apologies for the (mild) thread hijacking,
Mr. Sylvestre
