GPL Demo 4/6

by Mike Lescaul » Sat, 04 Apr 1998 04:00:00

A playable demo of Grand Prix Legends will be available at
http://www.racesimcentral.net/ on Monday, April 6th.

The demo will feature one track (Watkins Glen) and practice mode only.
There will be no AI or multiplayer support, as the main goal of this
demo is to display Papyrus' new physics engine.

I will do my best to answer any demo questions posted to this forum.  We
have also set up an email address for tech support or compatibility

Will there be a Rendition version of the demo?

Will the demo on 4/6 have support for 3Dfx Voodoo Graphics based video
cards?

Thanks,

Kyle

People already asked about Rendition and 3dfx modes. Let me complete
this set of questions by asking:
Will the demo run on non-3D-accelerated PCs? (no matter how slowly or
ungainly)

The demo will have native support for both Rendition and 3Dfx(including
some voodoo II specific enhancements).  There will also be a software
only mode for folks without 3D accelerators, but the game is not yet
optimized for software only.

My understanding is that GPL will not run on anything less than a
Pentium II 200 mhz.
True or false?

Is a PII200 about as fast as a iP233mmx. We don't get PII200s here in
Australia :)

Who told you that? It is already well-known that you need a P2-333 and
a Voodoo2 card to run it in 15fps with minimum settings and no cars in
view.

I sure hope you're being sarcastic, because if you're not you must be
smoking crack. I know for a fact that a person will get good
performance from the soon to be released GPL demo on a p-133 with a
normal Voodoo card or any flavor of Rendition board.

I guess that this URL will be practically unreachable for a week from
now on, since everybody will want to download the demo (including me,
of course :)

Are there any mirror sites (gpl.gamestats.com will have it, I
understand), and will the usual suspects (SRN, USpits etc.) be allowed
to make the demo available on their sites?

I seem to remember not long ago, the Nascar2 demo being released only at
allgames.com I also remember the server receiving about 4 hits a second
until the whole thing crumbled. Lets hope this doesn't happen again.

Nah, it's going to take a PII 400 Mhz Peltier cooled (cooked?)
processor, 256 Meg memory, and a 4 Gig HDD.  Don't even ask about
which video board will be required, but you can forget getting that
new car after you see the cost!

(The above comment is humorous, for those who are a bit too dense).
