GPL - Unable to save player options

GPL - Unable to save player options

by A. Ingra » Sun, 11 Mar 2001 05:24:43

After formatting my hard drive I am having this strange problem with GPL.
When I go into Options, even if I don't calibrate my LWFF, and after I
calibrate, I hit the green button and it tells me "Unable to save player
options." When I drive in GPL, everything is fine. However, when I go to
VROC, in the pit at the start my accelerator doesn't work and I can't get
out of the pit. I have looked at all the obvious things and I can't see
anything unusual. Does anyone know what the problem is? Thanks for any help.

Check and see if any of the files in your gpl or player directories have
become read-only.

I burned a CD with my patched, "add-on"ed, tailored GPL setup and then used
it to recover and found that everything was read-only and I had to attrib
them back before I could use the game.

Did you restore your GPL folder from a CD? Odds are all the files have been
set to read-only. In particular, sounds like your player.ini file (in
\gpl\players\a_ingram) is read-only. To reset the attribute, right-click and
choose Properties, then uncheck the "read only" checkbox.

If you are running Win 2000, you can select the entire folder and do this
and Windows will ask if you want to reset all folders. Win98 doesn't do
this - you'll have to go to each folder and do it.

Yep, looks like they are all "read only." Does this mean I have to uncheck
the "read only" box on EVERY GPL file? I hope not! Thank you both for your
prompt reply. I appreciate it.

I cheated and opened up a DOS box which allowed me to use the attrib command
from the GPL directory with wild cards

Whoopee! That was it! I just "selected all" in each folder and unchecked the
"read only" box. It worked! Thank you very much! Now, on to Vroc. Just to
make sure.

Vroc works fine now. I'm back in business. Thanks again!

GPL - Unable to save player options

Nope!  Go to the GPL folder in Windows Explorer.  Set it to "Detail
View".  Now click on the topmost entry.  Then scroll down to the
bottom-most entry, HOLD SHIFT KEY and click on it.  This highlights
all files and the folders (which, by default, highlights every
subordinate file in those folders).  Now right-click, select
Properties, uncheck the "Read-Only" attribute, and Press "OK".

That will clear the read-only attribute from every file and
subordinate file or folder.

Regards,
Brett C. Cammack
