On my P200, Matrox Mystique 4MB/Monster 3D 32MB RAM....installation was a
snap and in case you wondered, it does no harm to your existing N2 files.
One thing it does do is it reverts to the CALENDAR file instead of the *.cal
files used after installing the BGN pack, so I had to copy my .cal file
over, no big deal, but you can't change between schedules within the game
itself. That's something that will need to be fixed.
The real impact I noticed is when driving in arcade mode. The cars look
beautiful and move much more fluidly on the x-y axis.
On original N2 tracks, especially superspeedways, performance was decent, a
little better framerate. On BGN short tracks, it was choppy as hell. Also on
some tracks it would be very choppy for the first 5 seconds of racing.
One nice thing is that 3dfx patch will work with Daytona, Indy, and all the
other tracks floating around out there.
A worthy effort, I say, and worth taking a look it if youhave a 3dfx card.
It is a beta, so hopefully there will be some improvements on the next run
of it. My plans for now is to use it some tracks and use the normal N2 on
others.
