'Spirit Of Speed 1937' - any good?

I love GPL and am on the lookout for sims in a similar vein.  Is 'Spirit Of
Speed 1937' worth buying?  Any good?

I happen to be one of a small group who find SoS
quite enjoyable.   That said, it is no GPL.  If
you want GPL-style physics, your only other choice
is NASCAR 4.  I'm sure the folks here who enjoy F1
can shed light on quality of the current F1
offerings.

I happen to be one of the rest of the world who think SoS sucks
bigtime :)
The -only- thing that comes close to GPL in terms of physics model is
indeed Nascar 4.
Or if you can find it in a bargain bin, pick up Viper Racing, old but
excellent sim..

....

No, more likely, they will argue 130 messages deep about whether GP2 or F1RS
is better... :)

(I think that thread is still going)

SoS does suck bigtime but it could have been so good. Those old cicuits are
fantastic and 600 hp with skinny tires should be a hoot. Unforntunatley the
handling in SoS is plain crap.

I just wish someone would do some of those old circuits for GPL, Donnigton
anyone?

If not I'm continuing it here... F1RS is surely the better of the two.

Lead me to that thread... have to get stuck in!!

The handling out of the box was (and remains)
crap.  However, apply Bob Church's joystick
configuration utility (CTFJ! 3.20 - find it here:
http://home.att.net/~stickworks/) and SoS becomes
very enjoyable.

You can find some good settings for CTFJ! here:

Mr. Lipid is absolutely correct -- the CTFJ utility doesn't transform
SoS into GPL, but I've had a TON of fun campaigning vintage Indy
Deusenbergs and Millers against europe's finest marques!

It's definitely not a GPL-beater, but when it comes to relaxed, fun
racing, SoS approaches the NFSPU end of the spectrum.

No way Jan, while F1RS gives you a more realistic feeling of watching F1,
Gp2 gave you a better representation of driving an F1 ;-)

/me is just continuing the thread LOL

'Spirit Of Speed 1937' - any good?

Nah, it would be either:

NASCAR requires no skill cos its just around a circle
Indycar drivers are better than F1 because they have less driving aids.

Luke
