N3 Problem

by Ford 5 » Wed, 29 Sep 1999 04:00:00

Hi guys, just picked up N3 today, and noticed one glitch. When I get ready to
go into a race, you hear the sounds but once it comes on the screen, it jerks a
lot causing me to crash sometimes, but after about 20 secs. to a minute, it
smoothes out. Could you guys help me figure out what this problem is?

Here's the specs of my system:

64 MB Samsung PC100 RAM
8.4 gig Maxtor HD
56.6 Diamond SupraMax Modem
Creative RivaTNT 16 MB PCI Video
Creative 48X CD-ROM Drive
Soundblaster Live! Value w/Cambridge 4 point surround speaker set.
Running Win98 (First Edition)

Running 800X600 resolution on 14" Packard Bell Monitor with 32-bit color.

Please try to help with this problem as I think N3 is awesome!!!

Just guessing here, but is your hard drive working overtime during that
first few secs. ??
If so I wonder if you have your virtual mem. set high enough. Could be that
Windows is caching your game. Seems your have plenty of everything except I
would go for more RAM. It's cheap enough these days.

I have an Asus board with 128 Mb RAM. Everything else the same and have no
problems at all.

I dont know exactly what the answer is but

It takes somet to run W98 then N3.

It sounds like your drive is swapping memory around. Try more RAM.
Also, try changing video to 16-bit to see if that helps before you go for more RAM.

I run 64Mb with 16 bit color and very little swapping at all. (and that's on a 233Mhz PC
with all options on!)

You can also read the ENVIRONMENTAL VARIABLES in the readme.txt
file in the \Nascar3 folder. It describes a delay setting that may
help.
