CPR after patch on P100

by All Mighty Andy » Mon, 12 Jan 1998 04:00:00

Hi,

After hearing about the increased fram rate now with the patch for CPR I
have come to wounder if I can start thinking about buying it? I only
have a Pentium 100 /w 32 megs EDO ram and a 2 meg EDO Ati Rage II. Could
someone give me an idea of the aproximate frame rate I could get. I
don't care if I have to play in VGA. I just want to drive and be able to
see the see that's all. I am thinking of upgrading my prosser as well
and can someone please tell me what would be a good speed PII 300 mabey?

Thanks for any help,

CPR after patch on P100

Box says minimum of a 60Mhz Pentium, but even a 100 w/o a hardware
accelerator is going to be borderline.  My P200MMX only does 10-15fps with a
3DFX accelerator and the patch--but that's with all graphic features turned
on.  By turning many of them off, you might be able to get a reasonable
frame rate.

If your going to upgrade to a PII 300, you'll need a new motherboard (and to
do it "right" probably a new chassis (unless your current board is already
ATX) and DIMMs to replace your SIMMs).  If you don't want to do all of that,
the best you can do is upgrade to a P200MMX overdrive--and that's providing
you have a socket 7.

CPR after patch on P100

I have a P100, 64 MB Ram and a Intergraph Intense 3d Rendition card. I can
get a maximum of 15  fps in no traffic, no dash, no map, and no display. I
am running it in 640X480 mode and have hardware accel turned on. It's
somewhat playable, but not very driveable. I'm assuming you will need a PII
233 or higher with a D3D card to really make it work. I'm waiting for PII
300s to drop a bit before I jump in. Gonna need it for GPL and NASCAR3. Hope
that helps. If anyone elese has a P100 and is getting better than 15 fps,
please let me know how you did it.

CPR after patch on P100

I've got a P-133 with a Diamond Viper 330 card, and I was able to
get about 15 fps before the patch in a 12 car race. After the patch,
I was able to get about 25 fps in testing mode... (I have not had
time to test it beyond that since patching it...)

I use the following settings:
Hardware acceleration and smoothing ON
Hillsides ON (I don't like seeing armco's floating in the air!)
Dashboard ON
Track effects: tires only
Mirrors: cars only
Clipping distance: 31 (max)

Everything else is off or set to minumum levels...

I would think that with a P100 a good 3D accelerator card will be
a necessity to get the thing playable, even with minimum settings...

I have a Pentium 200/32MB and an ATI Rage I.  You should check to see
if the Rage II supports all the necessary functions of Direct3d
required for MS-CART.  The Rage I does not (lacking the z-buffering
IIRC).  Therefore I get between 20 to 28 fps when driving with all
detail off in 640X480 mode.  If you cannot use the hardware
accelleration, you will not get out of the low ***s, IMHO.  On the
other point, buy the fastest processor you can!
