N2 cal file for '97 season? Anyone?

by LC » Fri, 07 Feb 1997 04:00:00

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone could send me a N2 calendar file for the '97
WC season, with a replacement for Daytona.  I guess I could make one
myself, this seemed like an easier way!

Thanks,

LC

www.nascar.com has the '97 schedule. I took my info off there and build a
calendar. So, if you're not lazy, and don't mind replacing Daytona, Indy,
California, and Texas with alternate tracks, you're set.

What Track do you reccomend replacing Texas with?  I know Tally is for
Daytona and Michigan is for California(Califrnia was modeled after
Michigan by Penske), but what track is Texas like?

C***te or Atlanta would be a decent replacement.  All three tracks
are 1.5 miles (Atlanta is 1.522) and have 24 banking.  I'm not sure
which track's dogleg most closely resembles Texas.  If I had to guess
though, I'd say C***te.

I think Texas is like C***te in layout, but the banking is way
different. It has two different bankings one for IRL the other for
Winston Cup.

Jim

IRL cars race low... on the NASCAR apron, as IRL cars race better with less
banking.
NASCAR races high, where the banking is.

The banking for Winston Cup has a bigger vault than the one for the IRL.
This is because the prize money is sooo much bigger in Winston Cup. ;-)

Easy Jim:

If you read the documentation from the Texas Intl Speedway its
say thier is a high groove for NASCAR's and a low groove for
INDYCAR's

You're right, Eric - from what I've seen from testing on Texas, it is
almost exactly the same as C***te.  In fact, Atlanta is also being
reconfigured, and when it is done it too will have the same layout as
C***te.  That makes 5 races on essentially the same track.  But hey,
no redundancy there, right?

The "apron" of the high bank part of the track is also slightly banked.
The indy cars will race on this part of the track, as it goes all the
way around the track.  The most interesting thing brought to light (by
*** Berggren, I think) concerning this design is that with the banked
apron, chances are that the Winston Cup boys may try to use this part of
the track for passing in a pinch.  I imagine Dale Jarret will set up his
car to run down there and Ernie Irvan will just go there by accident!!!
