GPL: Training on slow machines

I went to a friends house today. He has a P266, and the performance of GPL
was not that satisfying. I was amazed how much framerates affect my driving.
In training mode with no AI at 26 frames it was no big deal (despite the
fact that I get a constant 30-something with 19 AI at home), but in
race-mode (19 frames with 8 AI) I couldn't even complete ONE lap due to the
terrible steering-response. Some time later this started to work better, so
that I can only recommend those people with *weaker* systems NOT to practice
in training mode. Car handling is *very* different when there's AI on the
track. Allways practice under racing conditions, even if framerates suck.

Sorry if this is no news, but I thought it'd be important.

Actually, you should practice under training mode and modify your
driving habits when the frame-rate falls during racing.

I'm usually at 36fps, but If I see the frame rate fall to 26 or so
I will try to not over-correct and such.

This way should be better because when your friend buys a faster
computer to play GPL properly -- he will have the skills :)

Maybe he needs to address his system performace! On my P200 I get 36fps
in training, 33-36 with 5 AI, 25-30fps with 11 AI, and 17-23fps with 19
AI!

Cheers!

I have a 200 Pro, (Dell) with 32mb ram and a Matrox Millennium 4mb Video board...
What do you have??? I get 12-14 FPS......  Alone and no graphics on anywhere!!!

You need a 3D card of some sort? Your Matrox millenium os *NOT* a
trude 3D card (although it does provide some 3d functions).

GPL supports the Rendition or 3Dfx 3D chipsets. So you need a
Rendition or 3Dfx card to get all the graphics and an improved frame
rate. (with a 200Pro you are probably better off getting a 3Dfx
Voodoo1 card, as your cpu would be a bottleneck with avoodoo2 card?)

8-)
