Thanks, Dave.  You summed up everything I wanted to learn in one neat little
package.  Must have been fun to be involved in that when it was current.

Most realistic racing game?

: Amongst the numerous things I know absolutely nothing about is the Amiga
: platform.  Can you point me at a good URL to get a better understanding of
: the hardware aspect?

There are a few good sources:

www.cucug.org/amiinformation.html - a long list of links, which provide
a huge range of sites, with info on about every Amiga ever built (or not)

www.onlyamiga.freeserve.co.uk - taken from the above list, perhaps
the best site for the info you want.

www.amiga.com - the official owner (a Gateway company), but don't expect
too much from them *spit*

FYI - the Amiga is still used by various companies professionally, including
NASA for launching the Space Shuttles and rockets :)

:   The Amiga(God rest its soul) is dead.  The corporeal eneities that
: wander aimlessly about proclaiming it's greatness are lost souls that
: don't know yet how to cross over to "the other side"

:) It's not dead - not yet, it's just very sick. Some of us are still
fighting for it - I can't wait for my Motorola G4 accelerator to arrive :)

:   The saddest day of my computer life was when I gave up on my A500
: Amiga and bought a 386dx.  I went by the handle "The Fallen" to
: symbolize my wretched existence having to learn about irq's and
: autoexecs, and configs...Remember what the man said, you can't know how
: low the lows are until you've seen the highs.(paraphrased)

Having vast experience with PCs and Macs (amongst others), the Amiga is
still my choice of computers - mainly because it's FUN! That's a term
I've not heard used to describe Win98 ;)

Getting back to the topic though - the Amiga does have the most realistic
F1 simulator available - Virtual Grand Prix :)

:                        \Amiga 4000 with .040 chipset.(might be higher
: clock speeds) 40hz versus pc's 600 for Intell PIII or 700 for AMD Athlon

Don't forget 68060 accelerators (up to 75MHz), and the PPC cards :)

: Originally used the same motorolla chip as the Mac.  Think of a fully
: developed amiga using the IBM Power PC chip of today...OOPS I starting
: to sound like a ghost again.

:) There are develpments on this front, and there are already 603e/604e
PPC accelerators on the market, soon G3/G4 ones. Okay, they are not fully
integrated, but that is the next step :)

It still is fun :) My A4000 can do nearly everything that a PC can, that I
need it to do, other than run GPL ;)
