TOCA 2 - not because it's easier to win--it's just more FUN.
Got to agree, bought TOCA2 about 3 weeks ago and IMHO no other sim I've ever
raced captured the "spirit" of the series it's attempting to simulate like
TOCA2. I've watched BTCC on SpeedVision and it looks frantic. Racing in
TOCA2 is also frantic and one heck of alot of fun. Now, if only the damn AI
weren't so slow and they didn't give up once you passed them.
Great racing. Oval track racing is its own art form. Patience and precision.
Same with Indy car sims featuring ovals. You need a cool head to survive. I've
raced N1999 and while the racing is good the heavy cars and trucks just aren't
my cup 'o tea (teabagger lingo...).

There's a new game which most of you will never had heard of - Virtual
Grand Prix, which is an F1 simulator, and is definitely the most realistic
F1 simulator around. Whilst the graphics are not up with the latest high-
spec PC games, it does provide the most realistic simulator available.
Unfortunately, for most of you, it's Amiga only :) The author also actually
does listen his customers, and provides quick upgrades to it.

I've been out of the Amiga loop for a while. What spec does this require
and where does one obtain it?
I have an A1200 w/ '030 and 12M ram.

Depends on your idea of fun;-)
I can see where people are coming from with the frantic aspect, but the
handling model infuriates the hell out of me, whereas GPL fills me with joy
(OK, -slight- overstatement) everytime I take to the track just because the
car feels right.
I also don't find the arcade presentation does it any favours - but then I
will merrilly admit to being in the vast minority when it comes to TOCA2 - I
don't think I read a bad review anywhere, where I read a few complaining
about GPL.

Before you buy.
Still, as an overall package, it will be a while before anybody is one
up on GPL for its physics. The realism is awesome - especially if you
have ever driven an open wheel car with no downforce (FV, etc.). The
online racing adds so much, too, except for the warping that makes close
racing and the start a bit scary.

Your machine can handle it. It needs AGA &/or a GFX card, CD-ROM drive,
030 and at least 4mb RAM.
: PC counterparts.
That's why there are still people playing F1GP in net championships :) (Not
to mention that we Amiga owners have been starved of newer games :P )

That's true for the out-of-the-box version, but with F1GP-Editor is can
be changed. Crammond didn't have the foresight to allow for faster Amigas
when he did the Amiga version :P The only feature lacking from the Amiga
version is the clouds of spray in the wet races. I think you'd be surprised
at what F1GP-Ed does to the game - even 1999 high noses are there now :)

<snip amiga stuff>
Hey..
Amongst the numerous things I know absolutely nothing about is the Amiga
platform. Can you point me at a good URL to get a better understanding of
the hardware aspect?
Thanks for any help,

Amiga A500 8hz (keyboard & cpu in one unit no harddrive)
\
Amiga A1200(expansion bay, mainly used for cpu
accelerators)
\Amiga A1200 with .030 accelerator card
Amiga 2000 (traditional horizontal case)
\Amiga 3000 (tower case??)
\Amiga 4000 with .040 chipset.(might be higher
clock speeds) 40hz versus pc's 600 for Intell PIII or 700 for AMD Athlon
Amiga Toaster == Separate box that was first home broadcast quality
home video editor, partially designed and produced by the brother of
comedian Dana Carvey
(hz may be mhz I don't know the difference!!! ) :>
Amiga OS was hardcoded on replacable chips. Desktop enviroment was
loaded from hard drive on the 2000's or from floppy for the A500.
Originally used the same motorolla chip as the Mac. Think of a fully
developed amiga using the IBM Power PC chip of today...OOPS I starting
to sound like a ghost again.
