Check out the article at Next Generations web site:

It seems that cops are getting their revenge for being left out in NFS2.
Backup, roadblocks and tire spikes, oh my! They also added weather and
light sourcing to the NFS2 engine (SE I hope) and shortcuts (still not
complete freedom to roam is my guess). Even tho the preview is for the psx
version, the PC version should be no different. Sounds like they might
make up for NFS2.

That's a good start. Now if they've fired the NFS2 track designer and
implemented some decent tracks (and PLEASE some open-road non-circuit
ones) they might actually have something.

If I remember correctly the in nfs there where only cops on the staged
circuits.  That would mean if they continue in the same fashion the nfs3
would have open staged races as well.

I certainly hope so. After all, the idea of cops chasing someone on
closed-circuit tracks is even more nonsensical that having traffic on
closed circuits.

So no 3Dfx support from within the car, only in chase mode ???? If that is so
then the game will suck as much as NFS2SE did! :-( That is the only reason why
I haven't bought NFS2SE because of this 'simple' solution.

This is bulls**t logic. I guess that's why Id left a story out of Quake,
so we have to buy Quake II. And Origin left polgon out of WC1 and 2, just
to make us buy WC3. The bastards!
It's called a sequel, it is supposed to add features, and yes, it does
cost money. So quit yer ***in.

Just want to remind everyone NOT to buy Nfs3 version 1.0 and wait for the SE
version, which will be out in 2-3 months, max.

:). What I was gonna do is this. After it came out, ask what could be in the
SE version besides more cars and tracks. With NFS SE, there were more
features, but NFS2SE was just more cars and tracks + 3Dfx. Mirror and
reverse modes don't count for me as features.

What are you talking about. NFS SE only added 2 tracks (plus bullshit
"night" mode). NFS2 SE added several tracks, cars, AND 3dfx. Whole new
game.

I think you need to get a 3dfx card.

The important lesson here is *not* to buy the initial release of the game,
until they release the SE version a few months later.  You know they're
holding back on some good stuff for the second version.  Either that, or a
guarantee for free upgrades.

Removing the***pit, the cops, the non-circuit courses, and the
realistic driving model made all versions of NFS2 a useless game for
me.

According to this thread NFS3 will bring back the cops. That's good
news - sounds like by about NFS5 in the year 2000 EA might have
actually recovered the feature set they had NFS 1! Ain't progress
grand?

Of course, that means the *real* NFS2 - that is, one that actually
IMPROVES on the NFS1 features - will be called NFS 6 or 7 and won't be
out until the new millenium.
