Ultimate Race Pro Lockup w/Montego soundcard?

by BRI » Fri, 24 Jul 1998 04:00:00

Ultimate Race Pro used to work fine with my system:
P200MMX
64megs EDO
CL Voodoo2 8 meg
TB Montego Soundcard
Sidewinder FFB stick and gamepad
Win98

Now it locks up everytime I go to start a race at the "choose transmission"
screen. Its a hard lockup and I have to reboot.  The demo mode works fine. I
am wondering if it might be the gameport on the Montego.  I have tried all
the gameport driver options and no change.  I have the URP version that came
with CL Voodoo2 card and have the latest patch.  I seem to remember it
working after I put in the the Montego a month ago and with Win98.  Since
then, I have updated the MS Sidewinder Drivers to the 3.0 and have the
latest Voodoo2 drivers but have gone back and tried the old drivers too.
Still the same result.  I know it works with Win98 as I have friends that
the same disk works on their computer.  Any help would be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks Brian

I'm having the same problem exactly. I've been working on the problem for
some time now. I have a dell 400rs. All updated drivers etc. The one lead is
that if you remove the Multifuntion device for the montego, then it works. I
had no problem under win95. The problem does seem to be a sound conflict
probaly with sidewinder. Let me know if you solve. i will post if i do.
Hopes this is at least a lead.

Ultimate Race Pro Lockup w/Montego soundcard?

This was sent to me and it works. Look under the control panel for this.
Thanks Barry!

"Before loading the game, disable directx sound acceleration in the A3d
control
panel.   The problem occurs regardless of the Sidewinder, since my computer
has
a Gravis Gamepad Pro, and no Sidewinder.  BTW, I'd love to take the credit
for
this fix, but I can't.  I found it by searching some postings using the
PowerSearch on the Dejanews web site.  Good luck."
