I doubt that someone who couldn't drive safely at 100MPH could drive safely
at 70. ie. if someone pulled out in front of them they would still just lock
the brakes and slide into the nearest piece of roadside furniture, bringing
out the same need for Fire, Ambulance, NHS and Highways Agency services ;)
By the way, all these services now claim against your insurance policy if
you have a need to call them out or you damage their property.
I agree with the original poster that the way to prevent accidents is by
improving the standard of driver education, not by placing GATSO speed
cameras at *so called accident blackspots*, though I've seen them placed at
locations that have never in my recollection had any accidents.
Improved road design and lighting would also help reduce the number of
accidents a lot.
