Not entirely racing sim related but I'm having some probs with getting
my joystick recognized nowadays.

Strange things first happened on sunday when in a GPL league race my
shift up button on my wheel started to fail (it would stay on all the
time), so I had to just put it in 4th gear and drive the remainder of
the race in that gear :-)

Figuring it was a prob with the wheel I didn't pay too much attention as
I switched to the joystick to play a little GP500 later. First time went
fine, but next time I tried once again one of the buttons would get
stuck. Figuring it was a little strange that both my wheel and joystick
would have a failure at the same time, I decided to try and see if maybe
it was just some software failure. So I went to the Windoze joystick
control panel and uninstalled the joystick and then tried to reinstall
it. But now win won't recognize neither the wheel or joystick (I just
get a not connected message even though it clearly is connected).

However in GPL when using the generic joystick driver it works (so far
the failing button also works, but haven't tried for long), it's just
that windoze doesn't recognize the devices any more. I tried
reinstalling directX (6.1) thinking that might be the failing software,
but to no avail.

Anyone have any idea what is wrong here, and what to do?

Hey Arne,
Didn't you create some really nice .wav files for GPL? Or am I
mistaken. I have run into a similar problem.
Go to the Device Manager and remove any reference to Joystick, Gameport and
then reboot. Windows will reload the joystick driver and you should be on
your way. Let me know. DBH   Good Luck!

The joystick is just a standard two button, two axis one. The wheel is a
F1 sim with T2 pedals.

Yes I did make some sounds a long time ago.
I tried removing everything and reboot, and sure enough Windows then
reinstalled the drivers, but it still wouldn't recognize me
controllers...

Try to remove the dinput.dll and dinput.vxd files from the
C:\windows\sysbckup folder to a temp folder before you reinstall DX6 and
restarts.

Run the DXdiag program in the C:\Program\DIRECTX\SETUP folder and see if you
can find something wrong there.

The Wingman team has also a clear calibration utility you can test.

Last tip, format hard drive and re-install Windows....
