Again Please!!?? SBK2001 & Quillemost FF Joystick Prob!!

Although you only see the problem in SBK2001 I'm still inclined to think
this is a driver/configuration issue. Mainly as with my Logitech stick
(which is technically very similar to the Guillemot) the game works fine,
for hours on end.

Have you got latest Guillemot drivers installed? Is there something in
running the background which could possibly interfere with SBK2001 (e.g.
Office Findfast, firewall, Ram Optimizer, etc...)? Have you tried setting
all your power saving settings to "never"? Which operating system are you
running BTW?

First Jan, thank you for the informative reply!!

You brought up many points I never thought about? [a] all power settings
are on "never". [b] I do run Zone Alarm Pro and ZipMagic 4,0,1,59 then
just Explorer and Systray. That's it!! I run Windows 98 SE.. So should I
take out Zone Alarm Pro & ZipMagic 4 while running SBK2001?

I believe I have the latest drivers for my Quillemot joystick {I can almost
use the window'ed menu from my "Quillemot Ferrari" race wheel too but
it doesnt have all the buttons that my Quillemot joystick does, odd huh?}
Also Jan, do you know that both my Quillemot wheel & joystick have a
menu type driven set'up & I guess this connects with the drivers.. yes?

I think I have targeted your reply with my info but if you have anymore
ideas please reply either here at "ras" or just email me! Tia. Any others
with any helpful suggestions is welcome too!!
Cheers Thom_j.

Welcome.

I wouldn't turn off Zone Alarm unless you're not connected to the net when
you play. I use Win98se too and have AtGuard on at all times. One thing you
do need to turn off, if your firewall has it, is the "interactive mode".
What I mean is when it alerts you to suspicious traffic and asks you to
manually allow it or not. If the firewall is in the background when you have
a game running and this request occurs, it can have all sorts of unwanted
effects (screen freezes, sound missing, games locking up, etc...).

ZipMagic... I don't have any experience with this utility, so I can't really
say, but if you haven't compressed your SBK2001 installation using it, you
might try turning it off. It would amaze me if this utility would interfere
with SBK2001 in any way it would only knock out FF, but you never know.

Eh... no, you shouldn't need a profiler software to use your stick with
SBK2001. If the stick shows up in the Game Controllers applet SBK2001 will
detect it and you'll be able to configure it in-game. The profiler indeed
sits on top of the drivers and allows one to re-map certain functions if the
game doesn't allow one to configure his buttons the way one wants (or
doesn't "see" all the buttons). They are not needed for the drivers to
function, however, and can even be a bit of a memory and "response" hog, so
most simracers I know only use profilers when they really have to. I have
permanently disabled the Wingman Profiler on my machine by deleting it from
the registry and have no problems whatsoever (and my Logi-stick has a
gazillion buttons too ;-)). If it's not there already you might try putting
your stick on ID1 on Advanced tab of the Game Controllers applet (might need
to move wheel "out of the way", i.e. putting it on ID3 or ID4 first).

You have answered all my questions, no worries, the real problem is: if none
of this generic stuff I put here helps, the problem will exceed my technical
ability to solve and you might need to consult tech support for either the
Guillemot or SBK2001 after all.

Cheers,

Jan.

Since I use cable as soon as I boot my computer up I am connected! This
is the only reason I use Zone Alarm Pro as the hackerz just love getting in
cable users computers... I dont have anything worth anything on my three
30-gig HDs but I do not want any un'wanted viruses, worms, trojans etc.
from any hackerz...ya know? I'm going to try shutting both off tho'...<g>

Well it is a Zip Util that makes all ur zipped files {and I have all kinds
of
stuff zipped! Yikes!..lol}but I can always turn it on or off with no probs.
So as stated: I'll try shutting this off too!!

and [c] I dont quite understand what you mean by: "your stick on

Sorry for my ignorance..lol

I feel all will workout out just fine sooner or later but I have SBK
