GPL -- Where to buy?

by Morton Chalo » Wed, 01 Aug 2001 12:10:20

Ok, Ok, I'm intrigued by all the clearly stalwart fans of GPL here and
figure I must be missing out on something.

Where can I buy it in the USA, please?  I have tried some obvious
places like Best Buy but to no avail.

Thanks

funny thing is...you'll most likely find it on the cheapo shelves at
places like Office Depot or Staples.  Good Luck.  There are a few fellows
here who have purchased spares...perhaps they could be of assistance.

This is sort of a rhetorical question:

If GPL is no longer "in print" and can't be purchased except through second
parties (meaning Sierra is not intending to earn profits from further sales
of GPL)....is it all that bad that somebody would make a CD copy and send it
to this guy......so he doesn't have to search the earth to play GPL with us?

Just thought I'd ask....as a point of discussion.

I think you will find that the actual duration of the "printing run" of a
book, CD, program, LP, musical composition etc. has no bearing on the
copyright issue.

Besides, it's not like you have to search the earth to find it.  Even here
in Switzerland I see the occasional copy in bargain bins.

You're right to be nervous. I just got GPL last week (I had a _slow_ computer
before) and it's ***ive.

As soon as you're consistent around Kyalami hop on VROC and gently race around
watching your mirrors.

I found it for 6 bucks at an Office Depot here in Denver, but that was
back in October.

Hi Morton,

I got it from www.purplus.com based on a recommendation from someone in
this newsgroup.  It was $9.98, plus about $5 shipping, and was the full
boxed version including printed manuals.  It's definitely a worthwhile
game, and the included book "Four Wheel Drift" is worth the price all by
itself.  I found that after just a few hours with GPL I finally got the
hang of controlling turns with my right foot, and was able to go back to
SCGT and other games and get better lap times as a result.

Regards,
Hal

Oh well........wheeew....do I feel better now!  He only has to search the
"bargain bins" of the earth for GPL.  That's a whole lot different than the
whole earth.  Piece of cake.....huh?

Hell no, don't anybody be sending our friend a CD copy of GPL.....just to be
nice.   "Dang warez, copycat fringers!"

Tom

PS:  Morton, if you don't find it in 24-hours, can you email me?

Same question(s) came up when Noonan's comverter came out.  ICR2 was difficult
to find, and the Indy track was damn near impossible.  Technically, it's
illegal to copy it.  Legally, I can't imagine some lawyer tracking you down for
it...

I'm in the USA too, but I bought mine over the web from a place in
Canada, www.dragon.ca.  I believe it was about $20 Canadian, which
is somewhat less in US dollars, plus shipping.  This was the full
version with the manual and Steve Smith's book.

Please don't pirate it-- it's still readily available pretty cheaply,
and Papy deserves our support.

It has taken me 3 weeks to get a 114.3466 handicap with a 1:30.43 at Monza
:-)

My Mexico and 'Ring times are holding me back.

Happy driving,
