Dangit!  Aussie Commentators for Aussie racing?  What's next?   And why
does SpeedchannelVision use an Aussie for some of it's coverage?  And why
do rally broadcasts sound better with an english accent than an American
accent?  And how do Japanese commentators spit out all the multi--
hyphenated--multi--syllabic sounding names?  uhmmm where were we?

Speaking of Trans-Am - what ever happened to a sim which was mooted a couple
of years ago?
It was going to represent Trans-Am as it was in its glory-years, back in the
1960's.

Great "rice" (as the Ozzies might say) between Larry Perkins & Peter Brock,
but then...it ends 6 laps into a 160-lap race.  Hey, where's the rest of it?
And do you have an in-car lap, preferably in the dry?

The Aussies' Peter Prock is not *our* Peter Brock (of Cobra Daytona Coupe
fame), who used to be plain ol' "Pete" Brock until recently.  The Down-Under
Brock is known to American TV audiences for his soft-spoken pitches for
Mobil 1 oil back when SpeedTV was Speedvision.

Jason,

If they can transmogrify NASCAR's lumpen sedans into Craftsmen Trucks, they
can make them into Aussie Supercars, but I'm not so sure abt. CART or 1977
F1s (the alleged timeframe for GPL 2).  I could be wrong.  I'll take
anything, including the Featherlite-series Sportsman Modifieds (which I've

road circuits.  Including--puh-LEEZ!--Bridgehampton.

Yeah.  Or at least a vintage sportscar mod.

Assuming the tire model is somewhat editable so you could reproduce
the pre-slick era, well, we already have all the 67 tracks available
for n2003.  Polish up the tracks, get someone like the GPLEA to create
the models, and have someone familiar with the GPL physics (one of the
65 mod guys for instance) provide the physics.

If open wheel just doesn't work in the n2k3 engine, there are always
GT40's and Chaparrals.

Did someone say "Chaparral?" Sign me up! They could always throw in some
Ferraris and Lolas for them to beat. ;-)

That's like morphing Elle McPherson into Anne Ramsey!! ("Momma" in "Throw

Thanks, Dave.

Yup. I've never driven a real one, only a virtual one in a sim. At
first, I was pretty hestitant about driving 'em. But any doubt I had
quickly vanished when I realized how fast and stable those cars can be
(thanks to the tires and wheelbase) unless you just plain abuse 'em. I
found myself really worrying less about tire wear and more on racing (I
still want to try the Aggressive AI option) and fuel management. :)

I couldn't imagine racing those cars on anything but ovals. If you get a
chance, rent Dirt to Daytona and do a race at Richmond and a few other
ovals. It's a riot! Just a damn shame we didn't get to race 'em on dirt.

Dave,

What is that top one?  A Mazda?  And the one on the bottom shouldn't take
too much work: Papy gave us 1960s-1970s stock cars in NASCAR Legends,
complete with wood-applique (burled pine, from the look of it) dashboards.

The prob for anything more recent is, of course, aero.  I have no idea
whether, how, or to what extent wings, tunnels, diffusers, etc. are--or
might be--modeled in any Papy physics engine since--Gott bewahr
uns!--IndyCar Racing.  Just because somebody can make these appurtenances
visible doesn't mean they're gonna *work*!  I, for one, don't look forward
to driving an Aussie V8--much less a Turbo Era F1 car--without downforce....

No, you guys are flat-out WRONG!  The *idea* of them on road courses is
almost unthinkable, but the reality is that they went like stink at the
Glen...and looked right at home (if ***ugly) doing it.  I got the
impression that they were oversized Formula Vs, with monster motors and
earth-mover tires.  They stayed planted four-square on the line while
leaving streaks at the exit of every corner.  They were even stable under
braking.  They sound was hellacious.  And best of all, you could look thru
all the tubing and see the drivers at work.  Lemme tell you, they were BUSY!
