It's true, Papy and Hstim are working on FF.

by Ilmo » Thu, 25 Mar 1999 04:00:00

A while ago there was some talk about Papyrus working with Hyperstimulator
to make a next generation of Force Feedback.

I just spent the day practicing some gpl at the head office in Lillydale. I
had a long talk with I think Jon Crooke? If not sorry. Either way he was a
very nice bloke and told me that they were working on a new FF system with
Papy. Im trying to remember everything so i'll just list it.

*They are going to take time and do it properly, he said maby in 2 years.
*Current hyperstims will be upgradeable when it comes out so if youve got
one or want one anytime soon dont worry.
*They are going to measure the different forces on a formula ford soon to
get an idea of how the different loads are.
*They would like it to be detailed to the point that there will be bumps in
the surface. Sort of a suface feeling is the way I understood it. Not just
steering torque and crash bumps.
*Like everything hyperstim it will be very adjustable, maby with novice,
intermeediate and pro settings regarding the amount of feedback.

He also told me some papy stuff. When Nascar 3 is out the plan is for
another Cart game (whohoo!). They wont do modern F1 because of the licencing
cost (grrr if I ever meet MrEcclestone im gonna kick him in the nuts!), I
guess it wouldnt really be thier style to go with fake names like Ubi did?

Also something interesting for the hacks is that he said FF code is already
in the game. They gave it a go with a Microsoft wheel and decided it was an
arcady load of crap. Given that you could think that they wouldnt just leave
it in the final build. But often developers leave unused code in a game so
that patching is simpler. Much easier just to switch something on instead of
hack it and risk breaking other things which is why I think the rain, oil
and radio sounds were still in the gp2 exe.

Well thats all I can remember. Im going to start saving my pasos so that by
the time it comes out I can get a FF hyperstim, with any luck gp3/4 or some
other modern F1 game will support this and we can all die happy.
Please dont bother with the "yeah right" posts, this is what I remember I
swear. If you dont hear about it straight away its because just like with
gpl they are prepaired to let us wait so that the final result is worth it.
But if only "one" person who reads this changes their mind about buying some
$400 dollar arcade toy from Microsoft it was worth it :)

Jon will pretty much say anything..   There are atleast two ppl behind
Hyperstim...   Jon and his brother..   Jon is the promotions guy..  he says
almost anything..   but his brother is the engineer who knows a lot about the
technical side....

Sorry to take the wind out of your sails...    or the force out of your
feedback  :-)

Gee, I hope nobody pays $400 for an MS wheel, when I got mine for $250
Canadaian (about $2.13US) just after they came out :)

Doubt I'll shell out the $3 or 4 grand they'll what for a Hypersim rig.
It'll be way cheaper to get an old Nova & go to the run-what-ya-brung at
the local 1/4 oval, instead.

I hope that Hyper cleans up their distribution channel in the U.S.
prior to that.  I was lied to about product status for 2 1/2 months
and eventually cancelled an order for a kit earlier this year. I was
told that product "was on the water"  (hyper is made in Australia)
when in fact the U.S. dealer was  holding orders so that they wouldn't
have to carry inventory.  Hyper supposedly requires a minimum of 20
units per order which is quite an investment for a dealer of an
expensive niche product. I wouldn't have minded the wait if I was
given the real reason.

I won't buy the product regardless of quality from the existing U.S.
dealer. Period.

Please pass that back to your head office contact.

So basically you are saying that anything he just said is a load of ***
JUST because Jon is the promotion guy?  Wow!

Sorry to hear about your poor sales from the US rep.
Why not email Hyperstim direct in Australia and complain about the
distributor you dealt with? I am sure they want only the best people
selling their gear.
