N2 + Screamin' 3D SLOW

by David A. Wic » Fri, 03 Jan 1997 04:00:00

I just installed my Screamin' 3D card and I'm NOT impressed.  I've seen no
improvement.  I can't run any more graphics now than I could before in SVGA
without things being to choppy to drive.  I have a P90 with 24M of RAM.  Is
it me?  Did I miss something important along the way?

Thanks!

Dave

Are you running the renddma version of N2?  Also what kind of DMA
scores is your machine getting?  If you don't have DMAtest, get it from
my utilities web page.

Hey Dave,
A quick question. Are your starting Nascar2 with the "renddma" at the
command prompt? This will take advantage of the Rendition board. I have a
P100 and a Screamin3D and Im getting at least 18fps with everything on.

Try running it in the renddma mode.  It makes a big difference.  Type
renddma at the c:\nascar2  prompt.  Hope this helps.

Not true.  I run the clouds on auto and they phase in/out just fine
under renddma.  This does not adversly affect performance either, as the
game runs very smooth on my P100/Screamin' 3D machine.

Yeah...P100/S3D here, too...N2 runs great under Renddma...sucks under
n2rend...I'm not actually sure if there's even a difference under n2rend
over not using the board!  By the way...anybody know anything about
screwing with the PCI latency timer?  I've heard good and bad...

Thanks...
